Costumes Made Easy

I firmly believe in dressing up for Halloween, and while I want my costumes to be as elaborate as possible, I understand that not everyone has the time and dedication. Halloween costumes are like chocolate chip cookies: store bought is okay, but homemade is much better, and here are some cheap and easy costumes you can pull off this Halloween

1. Deer (or Rudolph)

What you will need: antlers and a tail (I got mine from 5 below, or you could make some using an old headband and sticks), a brown tank top, brown shorts, and either black or brown boots, *Optional*: deer makeup, here is the tutorial I used for Halloween

2. Fairy, Fairy Princess, or Woodland Fairy

What you will need: Since there are many different types of fairies, there are many different ways you can go about putting this costume together, but at the very least you will need some fairy wings (again, I got mine from Amazon, but if you’re feeling particularly ambitious, you can definitely find a way to make some). Now, if you’re interested in being a Tinkerbell-esque fairy, all you will need is a dress that matches your wings and some heels, but Fairy Princess accessories can include a crown and a wand. Here is a makeup tutorial I found for a Wood nymph.

3. Minion

What you will need: A yellow T-shirt (with the Gru insignia, of course), jeans or denim shorts, black suspenders, black boots, and goggles (I made mine by cutting off the tops of a foam cup, drawing eyes on them, and taping them to a black headband)

4. Powerpuff Girls

What you will need: Two more friends to fill out the squad, you will each need a dress with a black stripe (one gets pink, the other blue, and the third green), white knee socks, black flats or Mary Janes, and whoever is Blossom requires a pink bow

5. Cosmo and Wanda (perfect couples costume)

What you will need: Cosmo- green hair spray, small yellow crown, white collared shirt, black tie, black pants/shoes, and magic wand; Wanda- pink hair spray, small yellow crown, yellow T-shirt, black pants/shoes, and magic wand

6. Mermaid

What you will need: Bikini top, mermaid skirt (you can either make your own or get a mermaid maxi skirt), hairspray that matches your skirt color, and face paint (I found a really cool tutorial for mermaid facepaint)

7. Wayne and Garth

What you will need: Wayne- black t-shirt, jeans with holes in the knees, and a black hat that says Wayne’s World; Garth- blonde wig (unless your hair actually is that long), blue flannel shirt, black glasses, white band shirt, and jeans with holes in the knees

8. Scarecrow

What you will need: a floppy straw hat, flannel shirt, jeans, suspenders, brown boots, *optional* straw poking out from your clothing, and scarecrow makeup

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
