The Conway Bucket List

If you’re new to the Conway area or just haven’t had the chance to get out and explore then you may be missing out on some pretty awesome things that Conway has to offer. After living as a student in this city for three years I’ve found some cool ways to spend my free time and I thought I’d share them with you. I’m sure there are a ton more things that I haven’t discovered yet so please leave your favorite places in the comments. If you’re a UCA student I recommend checking these things off your bucket list if you haven't already.

1. Hammock.

Try out UCA's hammock farm on campus or set up between two trees in Laurel Park. (free)

2. Visit the Hendrix tunnel.

Hendrix College has an interactive tunnel called "Harmonic Fugue" created by architect/composer/artist Christopher Janney that displays changing lights and sound effects. If you can solve the riddle inside the tunnel you'll get to see a super cool "dance" of the lights and music! (free)

3. Make your mark on Hippy Rock.

Cadron Settlement Park is just 5 miles West of Conway off of Old Morrilton Hwy and overlooks the Arkansas River. Off to the side of the pavilion is a short trail that leads down to "Hippy Rock" where people paint cool pictures and write their names. (free)

4. Chill out at Blue Sail Coffee.

Blue Sail has only been open since May 2014 and has already become a favorite study and hangout place for tons of UCA students. ($)

5. Eat at Slims on Tuesdays.

Slim Chickens offers 25% off your meal from 4-close when you show your student ID. ($)

6. Cheer on the Bears.

Tailgate a football game or watch a soccer match. Students get in free to all sporting events and swiping your bear card adds "Claw Cash" which are points that can be redeemed in the UCA bookstore. (free)http://www.ucasports.com/sports/2014/10/8/studentrewards.aspx

7. Catch a movie on Tuesdays.

The Cinemark theater offers movies for just five dollars on Tuesdays. ($)

8. Experience the Den.

Enjoy five dollar pizza every night before 8pm at Bears Den Pizza right next to campus. Head over in time for trivia on Mondays and Thursdays and if you're over 21 stay for live music, scavenger hunt and karaoke. Expect a cover charge on Thursdays and Fridays. ($)

9. Karaoke at Kings in Downtown Conway on Thursdays.

Kings is free to everyone 18 and up on Thursdays, and for everyone over 21 you can enjoy their awesome drink specials. (free entry)

10. Have an Arkansas Pineapple Whip during the summer months.

Experience the next best thing since sliced bread. ($)

11. Go to Toad Suck Daze in May.

Take your pick from one of the many food and drink trucks and enjoy the live music and games. (free entry)

12. Try out the Escape Mystery Room.

Get a group together and try to escape in under 60 minutes. ($$) https://www.facebook.com/escapemysteryrooms/

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
