"Who are you voting for in November?"
Like many out there, I'm stuck in a conundrum as to who exactly I'm leaning towards and honestly, I'd say I'm still at the same spot as I was in the beginning of all this. Right smack-dab in the middle. I have basically zero confidence in either nominee and instead of that confidence I have apprehension. Despite what POTUS says, I don't think Hillary Clinton is any more qualified than Donald Trump is.
My problem right now is that I'm faced with two options: vote for whoever I find to be the lesser of the two evils, or don't vote at all.
Now most people would protest at me if I decided not to vote, because "you don't have the right to complain about who's chosen if you didn't have a hand in helping to choose." But really, what good is complaining even if you did, anyway? But in any case, I can see their point, so I'll probably be voting this year.
But who exactly am I voting for? And why? I don't know yet.
I feel uncomfortable with the fact that many people out there who are in my same position are simply voting for one person because "better them than the alternative" as opposed to "I feel like this person can run our country." I feel uncomfortable with the "#GirlIGuessImWithHer" hashtag on Twitter, as if reluctantly expressing your "support" for another candidate is supposed to be reassuring. I feel uncomfortable with people siding with Trump if only because they're unable to get past Clinton's shady past.
When did voting for president become so problematic?
I want a president that can make a positive impact on the United States during their four-year term. I want a president that can stand up straight and not make excuses in the face of tragedy or strife. I want a president that will put his or her country before their own personal gains. At the very least, I want a president that I can feel confident in and that I know is genuine person at heart. And at this point, I don't think Clinton or Trump fit that bill.
Well, we can't always get what we want, can we?
I'll be voting, but I still don't know who I'll be voting for. I don't align with either the Democratic party or the Republican party. I'm not a fan of either candidate or really any candidate that was in the running this race.
Alas, I just hope that whoever wins the presidency is someone I won't feel too embarrassed to say represents our country.
