It’s Thanksgiving night. You’ve just finished your third bowl of mashed potatoes and probably are planning on taking a nap before going Black Friday shopping. While driving from store to store rummaging through all the racks and bins, please remember this one thing:
Often times people forget, or neglect to acknowledge, that Black Friday falls on Thanksgiving. That means, that while you’re eating your home-cooked meal and laughing with family members or friends, there’s someone putting on their work uniform preparing to depart for the night from hell. Instead of a relaxing evening, this brave soul needs to put on the biggest smile for some of the rudest customers on the busiest night of the year. Please, don’t be one of those customers.
I just want to give thanks to all the retail workers that are working this Thanksgiving night. You don’t deserve to be yelled at for not having the phone, sweater or DVD that we, as customers, so “desperately” need. Whether you were required or you offered to work, you gave up a night with your family and friends to deal with all the crazies who are out at 2 a.m. fighting for specific products.
To all the crazy shoppers, remember to spread a little holiday cheer as you do your holiday shopping on this frantic holiday. Say “thank you” to the cashier or allow someone to grab the last of the item that you wanted. You may not think it means much, but even the smallest act of kindness can make the biggest difference.
