Confessions Of A Nap-O-Holic

People say life's too short to sleep the day away. I disagree.

Confessions Of A Nap-O-Holic

It’s the moment I look forward to every single day. I cannot wait to get back in my bed and take a nap. If you’re anything like me, you know the value of naps; you realize and stress their importance. So, I write this, as a self-proclaimed “nap-o-holic,” and admit (somewhat embarrassingly) each of these confessions.

I think about my future nap the second I wake up.

Seriously, I usually wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Each day, my first thought is when I will be able to get back to sleep. I wish I was one of those people who wakes up every single day with a smile on their face, ready to conquer the day. However, I start my day with a much more negative mindset and a cup of coffee.

I use naps as my motivation.

Nothing gets me through the day more than the nap I know I’ll be able to take later. Honestly, this can be productive or counterproductive. Sometimes it feels like forever before you can go home and take a nap, but sometimes (and on the best days) your upcoming nap makes your obligations move a bit quicker. I always hope for the latter…

I usually don’t start doing homework until after a nap.

Remember all those times I said I was going home because I needed to get started on work? Yeah, well, I did really go home to be productive, but I will not start anything before I’ve taken my nap first. I like to believe that napping makes me more productive throughout my schoolwork. If I’m telling the truth, this sometimes goes into a downward spiral (see next confession), but this never seems to deter me. It’s just the way it goes.

I have napping down to a science (or so I like to think).

I usually set my alarm to nap for about 15 minutes. While I can (and do) power nap, it generally turns into multiple power naps… which is a whole lot less productive. I like to brag to my friends about how I can take a short nap and move along with my day, but unfortunately, this may be stretching the truth. I’ll just let myself continue to think I’ve got my life together.

Not turning my phone on silent is the worst.

Nothing kills my vibe like when someone texts me while I’m first falling into sleep during that glorious nap. The curious person that I am, I always end up checking it while simultaneously being annoyed with the person who sent it (they should know I’m napping, right?).

I still sleep just as easily at night.

People always question how I’m able to sleep at night when I take so many naps throughout the day. Honestly, I really have no idea. I can never seem to get enough sleep. I’m always tired. I consider my naps a little preview of my night, and I cherish every moment. I’ll do me and you do you.

No amount of caffeine can compare.

Coffee’s purpose is to fill the void of sleep. Usually, this just doesn’t cut it for me. I could drink all of the caffeine in the world, I’m convinced, and still be tired. This being said, nothing really helps except for sleep itself. This may be just a way for me to justify my frequent napping, but whatever.

My naps are weirdly timed.

Really, I’ll take a nap whenever. Usually they would occur right after returning from class (sorry to my roommate), but I’ve been known to take causal 9 P.M. siestas. While all of my friends and family think this is extremely strange, there’s never a wrong time to sleep, right?

In the end, I don’t think I’ll give up my naps anytime soon.

Yes, I probably could be more productive and get more done if I didn’t take as many naps, but I choose not to explore that option. I love to sleep, and why not pursue what I love? All jokes aside, I love incorporating naps into my day to keep me (somewhat) sane.

If you too are a self-proclaimed nap-o-holic, hopefully you related to some of these confessions. Napping is a way of life, and we all need to stick together and remind people that just because we sleep all the time, we are not super lazy but we will do this after a nap.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
