My Concerns For My Return To Penn State

There are a lot of concerns when it comes to returning to the Penn State campus, or any college campus for that matter, but for me, they seem to be weighing me down.

My Concerns For My Return To Penn State

Quality of online school

There can be so many technical difficulties when it comes to online classes and Zoom. I just feel like I won't be learning as well as I would be if I were in person and it's something that's really stressing me out.

Social life impact

The one thing I'm going to miss the most is being able to just run over to the HUB and meet my friends for a study date after classes. I can't even have a ton of people over at my apartment to see everyone like I normally would. I love the friends I have, but I am always open to making more and now I feel like it's going to be something that I won't have the opportunity for this year.

Getting fined

300 dollars?? Are you kidding me? I'm just afraid I'm going to end up doing something wrong, or against the ordinance, by accident and I'll have a fine to pay off. It's just stressful with all of the regulations they are putting on the community and students. I have a hard time trying to find the legality of it.

Getting the virus itself

This might be one of my biggest fears of returning to campus. The last thing I want is to get the virus, not know it, and then pass it on to my roommates and friends and other people I will have come in contact with.

Cabin fever

I know there are risks with leaving the house, but I know the beginning of quarantine I was going insane not being able to leave the house and I don't want to have to deal with that again. I just like being out and doing stuff and with all of my classes online, if I can't leave and do different activities, I don't know how I will be.

School not feeling the same

I already know Penn State won't feel the same and that makes me so sad. One of the best things about Penn State is the atmosphere it has so not having that same vibe will make it not even feel like I'm at Penn State.

Forgetting my mask for class

The amount of times I have gotten out of the car and forgot to bring my mask with me is ridiculous. I have one class a week in person and what if I'm running late and can't go to class because I forgot my mask? It's just one other thing I have to remember and it's becoming exhausting and can affect my education if I forget it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
