Labor Day has come and gone, so there is only one thing on everyone's mind: fall. On August 31st, everyone is heartbroken over the ending summer and nostalgic over all the sunkissed memories of the season. No more summer. No more sporadic beach adventures or sandy bums. No more tan lines or backyard barbecues. Summer is finally over. If you listen closely, you can hear a large sigh throughout America as the sun sets on the final day of summer...
But the second the clock strikes 12:00 a.m. on September 1st, all the heartbreak is long forgotten and everyone scatters to dig out their boxes of oversized sweaters and riding boots. You walk into your nearest grocery store or Starbucks and all you can see is an abundance of "Pumpkin Spice" everywhere you look. Never mind long days soaking up some sun, the only thing people want to experience is the changing of leaves and crisp autumn air. Sadly, it'll be about a month or so before this daydream becomes a reality.
September is a strange month. I have a love/hate relationship with September. For my own selfish reasons, I love September because it's my birthday month and at some point there is cake and money coming my way. But don't let that fool you. With me and September...it's complicated and this is why.
1. It's not summer...but it's not fall.
September is very indecisive and I can't keep reading these mixed signals. So I guess summer is over but then why is it still 89 degrees outside?
2. Back to the schoolwork grind.
September, while I love being back at school with my friends, I am not emotionally prepared the academic obligations you come with.
3. What to wear?
Early September can be very back and forth with this. Most days are hot and humid, but mornings and nights are chilly. September, tell me what you want.
4. No actual holidays to look forward to.
Labor Day is the first Monday of the month...then what do I have to look forward to celebrating? What days do I get off school? What benefits does September bring me?
5. One month closer the best holiday season of the year.September sets off the best time of year! Not only is fall amazing, but after September you have Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas! The absolute best time of year is the prologue to September.
6. Some things you can only do in September.
September is the perfect time to go apple picking and have a bonfire without it getting too chilly. While the entire season of fall has loads of potential for autumn-specific activities, September has something to offer that other months don't.
7. New school year, new opportunities.
With a new school years come new opportunities and new friendships! It's the perfect time to join a new club or get to know your neighbors. September is like the prelude to New Years!
8. You control when fall starts
Depending on where you are and how ready for fall you are, you get to decide when it's time to start drinking pumpkin spice lattes and when it's acceptable to put away the summer flip flops. You have a say in what you want, which is crucial to any relationship.
