A Commuter's Daily Struggles

Must be nice to live on campus

A Commuter's Daily Struggles

Whether you drive, take a train, or ride a bus to school, we all face similar struggles every day.

1. Having to wake up extra early for class to get there on time.

So you don't have an 8 a.m., but you might as well considering you have to be up by 7 to leave by 8 to get to class by 9:30.

2. Leaving on time but still getting to class late due to traffic jams or public transportation delays.

The anxiety of walking into class late while everyone stares at you is real. "Am I going to get a seat?" is always the scariest thought to have.

3. "So, do you even go out?" is always the most annoying question ever.

Yes, yes I do. Just because I live an hour away from campus does not mean that I am a homebody who never leaves the house.

4. Whenever you tell people you commute, you get "that face" reaction.

You know the one I'm talking about. Where they feel sorry for you because you don't get "the college experience."

5. Going out is a hassle.

Sleeping out on the weekend calls for packing your entire life with you. You don't just have to bring clothes, but also all of your daily toiletries, pairs of shoes, etc.

6. Struggling to find a place to sleep for the weekend.

Your friends living in the dorms aren't always free to have you crash at their place. At least there is a nice bench on campus you can spend the night on.

7. When your friends from home want to visit you, but there is no place for them to sleep either.

At least that bench can fit up to six people.

8. Group projects will be the death of you.

Hearing the professor say the words "group project" may cause depression. Make that one extra commute to school added to the list.

9. Not knowing what to do with yourself during gaps between classes.

If you are a commuter, I feel your pain. Even though at times it may be aggravating, there are plenty pros we have that our on-campus friends envy. Having a three-hour break until your next class with nowhere to go or nothing to do is painful.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
