You're walking down the street at a brisk pace, trying to get to your class that starts at 10 a.m. It's 9:56 a.m., but if you spread out your paces and walk like you're a champion speed walker, you should only be like three minutes late, which is totally okay because there are people who dare to show up after being fifteen minutes late. You could be so much worse. As you round the corner, a sudden pang of pain hits your abdomen left side. You take a moment, and gather yourself, coming to terms that you soon will collapse from a ruptured appendix...even though it was just a cramp. My friend you are not overreacting, okay maybe you are, but you are also what I and so many others would be called: a hypochondriac.
Here is a list of common aches, pains, and feelings that we as hypochondriacs turn into life threatening illnesses.
1. Headaches: A brain tumor, or some kind of brain illness.
The moment I feel any pain in my head, it's all down hill from there. Honestly I don't even know what is wrong with my head, all I know is it can't be good, and it's probably going to kill me.
2. Knee Pain: Torn ACL, or torn ligaments.
Limping is basically the only option at this point, and you may never walk again. Knee pain is something that I really cannot rationally explain.
3. Hand pain: Carpal tunnel
Hand pain the worst. It like totally immobilizes your hand, to the point where probably the last option there is, is to cut it off. People make fun of us, claiming it's just a stupid cramp, but we know what's really going on.
4. Stomachache: Appendicitis
Even though the pain is on the opposite side of where the appendix actually is, we have appendicitis and no one is going to tell us differently.
All of this is completely in our heads, yet we cannot manage to realize our everyday aches and pains happen to everyone, and are normal. To our friends who we constantly have to ask "am I going to die" to, thank you. Because of you, we can be our weird selves and still live to see another day.
