The time has come. You've packed your clothes, emptied your mini fridge and left the college scene behind for a month. It's winter break and you're going back to your hometown. Welcome to an entirely new world and a change of lifestyle. Here are nine things that all college students encounter when coming home for winter break.
1. Eating all the food in your house
You've either been living off of food from a subpar dining hall or Ramen for the last five months, so you are beyond excited to enjoy the free food that is in your fridge and your mom's cooking that you have missed so much.
2. Having awkward encounters at the grocery store
Once you've eaten everything in your pantry, venturing out to the local grocery store will be necessary and you are sure to run into at least one or two of those people you never thought you would see again. You thought you got rid of them when you graduated. Wrong! They are all back from school too, which means you will now avoid any stores within a 15 mile radius for the next month.
3. Being questioned about your grades
Did you make straight A's? Did you make the President's List? How about the Dean's List? No? Well then what did you do for five months?
4. Being drilled about your love life
No, mom. I haven't found the love of my life at school. I can't even talk to anyone without being awkward.
5. Having to wear real clothes when you leave the house
For whatever reason, a ball cap, oversized college t-shirt and Nike shorts no longer cut it.
6. Making plans with your friends back home
You haven't seen each other in five months, so you've got to make the most of your month back home.
7. Catching up on sleep
Chances are, you spent most of the last two weeks pulling all nighters. Reward yourself.
8. Having to watch your language
Lets face it. Your college words don't go over well back home.
9. Missing your life back at school
Even though you've missed your family and all of the perks that come with being home, nothing will compare to the freedom and friendships that you've created at school. When it is time to go back to school nothing can stop you. Not even traffic.
