Pre-con anxiety is the worst. Two weeks before a convention you look at the calendar and wonder to yourself "is it okay to start packing yet?" knowing full well you're not prepared to pack. I for one am horrible with con crunches; where three days before you leave for a convention you're running around trying to finish your costumes because you're lazy trash and procrastinate. That's half the fun, though.
When you get to the convention you get to stand in line to get your badge. Then re off to the con.
The best thing about conventions is you can be whoever or whatever you want to be, for as long as you want to be it, and nobody is going to judge you or say otherwise. You see all kinds of people at comic conventions. Tall people, short people, plus sized people, extremely tiny people, cross-dressers, half naked people. But you know what? Who cares. At a convention, anyone can be anything and people accept it and take pictures for memories and compliment them on their costumes and move on.
If you don't feel comfortable at a convention then you're going to the wrong one. Because no one should ever feel judged.
I went to katsucon this past weekend and I cosplayed as belle from beauty and the beast, heartseeker Ashe from league of legends and a female 20's pinup version of captain America. There were so many people there who complimented me and held conversations with me.
When you go to a convention, as soon as you walk through those doors you immediately become a part of a huge, loud, nerdy, family. But it's the best family you will ever have. I began cosplaying and going to conventions several years ago and I don't think I'm ever going to stop.
At conventions, anything goes and there's no such thing as a bad cosplay.
It's an incredible weekend and it's just a good time with no sleep. If you feel like you're an outcast in daily life. Just know that there's always a home for you at a convention.
Below are some pictures I took during my weekend:
Mrs. Frizzle made an appearance during the convention
This is a jinx cosplayer from league of legends
I'm the Belle (yellow dress) and an Ariel cosplayer
The dinosaur trainer from Jurassic world showed up with some plastic dinosaurs.
A snorlax from pokemon decided to wake up and grace us with his presence
Also, comic conventions aren't just for adults! There are young children and even babies that cosplay with some help from their parents!
Even stuffed animals and photographers make appearances. During a League of Legends photoshoot when Fizz (a character) was called, and nobody cosplayed as him, so someone threw their stuffed animal they bought up to fill the position. And this kind photographer helped sit him up to be picture ready.
I am the pink girl. I cosplayed heartseeker Ashe from League of Legends. The other girl is Queen Ashe, also from League of Legends.
As you can see, there are all kinds of people (and stuffed animals) that go to comic conventions. It really is just a huge party and a huge family. I highly suggest that anyone try a convention at least once in their lives!
