College Is What You Make Of It

Change is something that is tough to experience in life, but without it life would not be as interesting and exciting. When an individual experiences change, they are usually being pushed out of their comfort zone, which can be a challenging task.

College is an opportunity for individuals to come out of their shell, to discover who they really are and who they want to be. It is a privilege to attend college based on the endless opportunities for growth and success.

Most people go into college with mixed emotions. You don’t really know what to expect, but you’re constantly reminded that your college years are some of the best in your life, like everyone says. Going into college anticipating the years ahead to be absolutely amazing can raise one's expectations for it to just come to them, but that is not the case.

Getting involved is a significant aspect of college life. Sitting around and waiting for phenomenal experiences to come your way without being proactive will result in a bored and bittefr attitude. In order to meet new people, make new connections, and learn new things, it’s essential to put in as much effort as you can. Although it may be uncomfortable and a little nerve-wracking at first, it will be beyond worth it in the end.

Putting yourself out there in college is positive in so many ways. You will feel so much better about yourself and feel so confident. You will learn skills that will allow you to succeed in life. You will become a more mature and optimistic individual.

I am writing this article in hopes of connecting to college freshman that feel misplaced at the moment; those who feel disconnected on their college campus. I am here to tell you from personal experience that you are in charge of making your college years awesome.

You have all of the power in the world to fulfill your dreams and make your years spent as a college student unforgettable. Just put yourself out there, that is your responsibility. It is what you need to do, and I promise you that you will regret it if you don’t.

The opportunities presented on college campuses are endless. There are clubs that you can look into, some that may pertain to your area of study, and some that may contribute to a cause that you want to be a part of. Some college campuses offer Greek life, which is another great way to get involved and meet people who are similar to yourself. Many colleges offer club and intramural sports which are not as serious as the varsity athletics, and are mostly organized to just have a good time. There really are no excuses, you just have to go for it.

I hope that after reading my article you are able to realize that college really is what YOU make of it. After finding my niche and getting myself involved in some great programs and organizations, I have become a happier person. Try your best to immerse yourself in the opportunities that are presented to you in college. You will make the greatest friends and become the best version of yourself in the end.

Take advantage of what is in front of you. It will be the best decision that you will ever make during your college years…I promise.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
