After graduating high school, I never thought those years could have been topped. But boy, was I wrong. High school was great while it lasted, but college has been by far the best time of my life. College gives you opportunities to explore your options, become your own person, and find your niche in life. College is the perfect transition to adulthood if you take advantage of it. Live it up, because college will be the best time of your life, so make it count. These are the prime reasons why college has proven to be the best four years of my life.
1. Freedom.
I gained more freedom in every scale. Moving on-campus away from home gave more privacy and a sense of living on your own. Having the freedom to choose what classes you want to take and make your own schedule. Join any organization or sports team you want to be a part of. College is all about giving you freedom and transitioning you to succeed in the adult world.
2. Choose what you want.
In high school, your path is chosen for you, but in college you make your mark, your own decisions, and you drive the car to this crazy journey called life. Choosing your own major will allow you to tap into what you have always wanted to do. Yes, you still have to complete those annoying general education classes, but then you have the opportunity to explore exactly what you want do. There is nothing better than attending class and learning about what you want to learn, not something you have to learn to fulfill a credit.
3. Get involved.
Although high school does have student organizations and sports to participate in, it's not the same as being a part of it in college. You can join national student organizations on a much larger scale than you experienced in high school. Joining a sorority my freshman year was a serious game-changer and 100 percent made my college experience worth it.4. Make your own schedule.
I loved always making up my own schedule for my college classes every semester. If you want to only go two days a week all day, you can make that happen. You have so many options in college to set up your schedule in a way that is most convenient to you, and it's great.
5. Friendships.
As many friends as I made in high school, the friendships I have gained throughout college have been even better. You have the opportunity to bond with individuals from all over the world. The people you attend your major classes with, you will bond with because you can relate to each other. You'll find your long-lost best friends in college and it will feel like you have known them your entire life. You may even find your "college sweetheart"; I did!
6. Memories.
The memories I have gained in college have consistently been the stories I have shared with my friends over and over and over again. I never get tired of reminiscing on "old times" or saying, "Remember that one time?" Yeah, those stories seriously never get old, and are promising to make you laugh for many years to come.
7. Opportunities.
You'll receive countless opportunities. From receiving scholarship money to help with tuition, receiving an internship to work at Disney for the Disney college program, traveling abroad and visiting somewhere you have dreamed of going, or even making a connection with someone that will lead you to a job. The opportunities that happen in college are like one in a million. Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way because you never know if you'll have that chance again.
8. Campus activities.
Besides joining a student organization, there are tons of stuff you'll find to do just by walking around on campus. Anything from concerts, game nights, intramural games, etc. You'll be sure to find something you are interested in!
9. Gym membership.
If you love working out, college is also the perfect opportunity to stay in shape while at school. Walking around campus every day is a good workout in itself, but you will also have access to a gym conveniently located on campus. Now you really have no excuse not to get in shape!
10. Connections.
Not only will you graduate with a college degree, but you will also enter the adult world with tons of connections! Make good relationships with your professors, with your part-time bosses, your classmates, etc. Because later in life, you will need them. The key to finding your career really is through networking, and building those relationships while in college is super important.
