If you didn't have to work hard for it, was it really worth it?

College: Welcome to the Best and Worst Years of Your Life

"College is believing there is no possbility of becoming any more exhausted or stressed out, then remembering you have an exam the next day."

Before coming to college, we all have a pre-conceived notion on what college will be like. Now being in my fourth year, I have come up with 15 solid points that I believe every college student can related to on a very personal level.

1. Monday's truly do suck.

After a weekend full of studying or partying, by the time Monday runs around you're exhausted and ready for the week to be over before realizing it has only just begun.

2. If your friends invite you out, go.

I had never been to a college party until my senior year, and I can't help but wish I would've said yes to my friends invites during my first three years. People assume that if you go to a party, you are automatically forced to drink and make "poor decisions", but that isn't true. So if they ask, just say yes.

3. You are always broke.

We all hear the expression, "I'm a broke college student." and laugh about it. But no. You really are broke. Paying for food in quarters is a real thing.

4. 8 am's are a not a very good idea.

Sometimes you don't have an option because that class will only be offered at 8 am. But when you have a choice, AVOID IT.

6. What is sleep?

I never fully understood the meaning of being exhausted until I came to college. Between classes, work, family and trying to have a social life; I have never been so mentally, emotionally or physically exhausted.

7. When the weekend comes, life is great again.

Once Wednesday rolls around, the anticipation starts because the weekend is so close. Bring on nights out with your friends and the promise of memories to be made.

8. You will meet lifelong friends.

I had no idea that college truly would be the place where I met my best friends that I know will always be around. These are the people that you will spend your days and nights with. The people who will see you at your best and worst and will still love you at the end of the day.

9. Exam week really does feel like hell.

Scratch that. Midterms and finals are hell. The library's hours will be extended and you will most likely be living there with excessive amounts of caffeine and not nearly enough sleep.

10. A cancelled class is a miracle in itself.

Very rarely will your professors cancel class, so when they do it's worth celebrating.

11. School spirit meets an all time high.

I fell in love with my university because of our school spirit. Whether its Saturday nights cheering on our football team or when are school faces a tragedy, our school spirit comes out full force. I take pride in knowing I am a Card.

12. If you're not considering dropping out to work at McDonald's at least once a month, are you really in college?

For some reason, professors forget that you are not only in their class. So having three papers, a research project, two exams and "regular" homework all due on the same day, is a common theme. Hearing "I''m dropping out to work at McDonald's", will be a phrase constantly being repeated.

13. The freshman 15 is very real.

Cheap food is not always healthy food.

14. College is where you start to find yourself.

I had no idea who I was until I came to college. I didn't know who I was without my parents or my friends back home. But college was where I learned how to be myself and not care what others thought about me.

15. It really can be the best years of your life.

I can personally say that my four years in college have been the absolute best and worst years of my life. But I have loved it all because it has helped shape who I am and has given me memories that I know will last a lifetime.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time.
