All College Students Should Have A Bucket List
Caitlin Beheler

My Senior year is coming up quicker than I'd like to think. I've spent the last three years being the literal definition of struggling. This year is going to be different. My best friend and I are going to make sure of it.

This year, I'm living with my best friend (and her dog) off campus. I'm signing my first lease. I'm going to have a great apartment with a pool and gym and all that stuff I don't have on campus. But my living situation isn't going to be the only way this year is going to be the best. While this year will be full of "lasts," I also want it to be full of "firsts." When I walk across that stage, I want to be able to say that my Senior year was the best one.

In order to achieve that, my roommate and I are going to be making a Senior year bucket list. It will include all of the staples of our school like jumping in the fountains, but it will also include things that have nothing to do with our school. There are just some things that you want to do with your best friend, and we want to do them before we graduate and life starts getting in the way of things. These things could be as basic as going to a batting cage on a stressful day or taking in one of the baseball games downtown that we always say we're going to go to. It can be something elaborate like watching an entire genre of movies on Netflix or instituting a mandatory family dinner night each week.

I think that every person should have their bucket list that they want to finish before they graduate. This doesn't just go for college, but for high school as well. It gives you the opportunity to do things that you normally wouldn't do with some of your favorite people. In the crazy year that is about to happen, I don't want to forget to prioritize the people that have made the last three years so worth it and have helped me through the long nights of studying.

It is important to me to not only prioritize the academic side of college, but also the fun side. This bucket list will make us remember to make time for each other, even when we have a million tests and essays to get done before the end of the week. We'll always get them done, but we may put them off for a little later in favor of hitting up the taco place downtown that we've always wanted to try.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
