I'm a cat person, always have been and always will be. I love dogs, too, don't get me wrong, but, nothing is better than snuggling up with a fluffy cat, holding a glass of wine.
There are so many benefits to getting a cat, even while still you're still in college and it's enough reasons that I think everyone should get one. Hear me out.
1. They are easy to care for
One thing that cats definitely have over dogs is the ability to easily care for them. They don't need to be taken out three times a day, and you are able to leave them for days at a time. You can leave out food for them while you're away and they'll actually enjoy the alone time, unlike dogs.
2. They're quiet
Unless your cat is extremely vocal, they are quiet, for the most part. They won't disturb your apartment neighbors with loud noises and you'll get a full night's rest while they nap at your feet.
3. They're the best cuddle partners
Who needs a man when you have a cat to snuggle with every night? They also love to wake you up with an affectionate rub to the head to remind you that they are hungry.
4. You'll never feel lonely
If you're like me, being home can sometimes make you feel a little lonely. Everyone's working or busy and you can't find anyone to hang out with. Luckily, if you have a cat, there's always someone who wants to spend time with you!
5. They're great Instagram models
In my experience, cats are the most photogenic. They love being the center of attention, which is perfect for taking some bomb pictures to share with your friends.
6. There are so many up for adoption
You're in luck because you can head to your nearest shelter and find hundreds of cats who need homes. You are bound to find at least one that holds your heart. You'd be helping an animal who needs a loving home, while also finding a best friend for life! (Sounds cheesy, I know)
Maybe this was just enough to push you in the direction of getting a new kitten, or maybe not. But, either way, getting a cat was one of the best decisions I made in college so far. I care for him the way I'd care for my first-born child, and that's the way it should be! They might not be as outgoing and playful as a puppy, but they'll love you just the same. Hopefully, after reading this, I might've swayed you to head to your local shelter and find a new buddy to bring home.
