The Only Tip You Need To Know About Handling College Stress

Ok, here's the thing.

It is okay to be stressed.

Starting college is quite an adventure and the level of stress you are about to endorse will most likely blow your mind. The first few weeks of college, for some, will be stress-free and fun. You won't have to worry about anything, you aren't really scared of anything, and you will still have money to do whatever you want. However, after that is over with, everything comes crumbling down one earthquake after the other. You begin having homework every night, deadlines for organization applications approach, and you can't find enough time in your day to sleep and eat, at all. Please keep in mind throughout this wonderful experience, you are not alone. Every college student goes through this and every college student wants to break down into stress balls because they "just can't do it anymore." Honey, no. College just began and you are in for the best times of your life. Yes, I am a freshman but I'm still right so continue reading. :)

It is completely, 110% okay to feel the stress and feel like it is taking over your body. Here's my advice to you when this happens and it is my only piece of advice because I know it works:

Talk to your mentor

Find someone who is older than you that has been through this before and break down to them. They understand and they know how to help. Don't try to talk to your friends about this because they are most likely going through the same thing and they don't know all the secrets yet. By finding someone that you trust that has "been there, done that" and learned how to escape the life trauma you're in, it will help you so much. Honestly, I had to do it and I haven't looked back yet. The words of advice I received are special to me in more ways than one and I could never thank my mentor enough for them.

Yes, that it is. That's all I got for ya. However, listen to me. It sounds a bit silly and it may not be your first option right now but you will thank me later. Stress is a horrible thing and it definitely lasts longer than it should for some, but it's one of those things that everyone has and you just have to deal with that. You will get through it though and you will feel stronger than ever when you do! If there is anything else I could advise to you, it would be to continue praying. Nothing is more powerful than a prayer and that alone will put so much satisfaction in your heart that you might not even feel the stress anymore. My favorite verse/scripture is Isaiah 14:27 "Nothing can stop God's plan for your life." I keep this in mind every single day, even when I start to feel like giving up, and my whole aspect on life changes. Nothing, not even stress, can stop the plan that was made for YOU.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
