America's Colleges Have Become Breeding Grounds For SJWs And We Need To Talk About

Higher education has become a safe space, where it coddles students' problems, instead of the introduction to reality it was supposed to be.

Time and time again, there have been numerous articles and news segments about liberally biased incidents and protests happening on college campuses across the United States. When seeing a few of these "SJW" incidents, it gets people to start to wonder, "what is actually going on at these colleges?" After experiencing a year at university, I feel I have a grasp on the exact nature of what is happening.

Higher education, or college, is not only for the life experiences of stumbling home drunk from the bars, but also to enrich our knowledge of the world and increase our understanding of a subject matter of our choosing. It is also there to challenge us academically and socially.

Socially, college campuses love diversity. There is nothing wrong with having a pool of people from different backgrounds (race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.). It is part of what makes the social aspect of college so unique and allows for the growth in our understanding of the world. However, college campuses have become the breeding grounds of social justice warriors and far-left ideology.

There is nothing wrong with being liberal. There is nothing wrong with being conservative. What is wrong is that conservative students are being labeled as fascists, racists, and sexists, silenced on campus and being called out in class for their difference of opinion.

College campuses create a feeling of acceptance. You can be and become anyone you want to be on a college campus, except a conservative. And there have been so many articles and stories about people being one of the only conservatives on campus or getting called out in class. People hear about them all the time as I have said before.

The problem: it is getting worse.

Conservatives will intentionally change their views in the classroom setting just to pass a class. These students will write whole papers arguing for something they are completely against because they are afraid to fail the class. Classes centered around diversity and inclusion have teachers who intentionally only show one side of the story. This sways and influences students who do not know enough about politics and social issues to look further into it and take what is said at face value. College campuses are indoctrinating far-left views that are not always based on facts, but rather feelings.

Of the top 100 colleges in the United States, only three will have a conservative speaker for the Commencement Speech at their graduations; whereas at least 38 will be liberal.

Now, colleges should not turn around and begin silencing liberals. In fact, classes should become areas of discussion, where the teacher allows for debate to occur without interfering. In order to grow knowledge and allow for students to form their own opinions, colleges need to become breeding grounds of diversity of thought. Colleges need to challenge students to think for themselves, collect their own opinions, and teach what students need to be successful.

Higher education has become a safe space, where it coddles students' problems, instead of the introduction to reality it was supposed to be.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
