Fifteen songs to sum up college life

College: A Playlist
Sidney Hildebrandt

College... the kind of place that causes students to live in a constant state of fear and excitement. Our varying emotions can only be remedied by music. Here it is, a playlist I made especially for the most stressful four years of my life.

1. All Time Low // Jon Bellion

This is pretty self-explanatory

Low, low, lo-lo-low, low, low, low, low
Low, low, lo-lo-low, low, low, low ,low
Low, low, lo-lo-low, low, low, low, low
Low, low, lo-lo-low, low, low, low, low

2. Baby Girl // Sugarland

This song speaks volumes to our college student bank account

Dear Mom and Dad
Please send money, I'm so broke that it ain't funny

3. Bawitdaba // Kid Rock

Most of this song makes no sense, a lot like our professors.

Bawitdaba-da bang-da-bang-diggy-diggy-diggy
Said the boogie-said up drop the boogie

4. Bohemian Rhapsody // Queen

When you come across free food on campus, or even better, class gets canceled.

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

5.Comfortably Numb // Pink Floyd

This is the song to perfectly describe doing poorly on a test you studied very hard for.

This is not how I am , I have become comfortably numb

6. Alright // Kendrick Lamar

That pep talk you give yourself on your way to your 3 hour lecture

But if God got us then we got’ be alright…
We got’ be alright
Do you hear me? Do you feel me?
We got’ be alright

7. Crazy // Gnarls Barkley

Walking past a tour group full of high schoolers on campus like...

But maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy
Maybe we're crazy
Probably

8. Don't Stop Believing // Journey

The conversation you have with yourself late in the night when you are overwhelmed with school work and just want to quit

Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'

9. Suit and Jacket // Judah & The Lion

all of this growing up talk is scaring the crap out of us...

I ain't trading my youth for no suit and jacket
I ain't giving my freedom for your money and status
So don't say I'm getting older
'Cause I'll say it when I do
'Cause everybody I know, everybody I know
is growing old, is growing old too quickly
and I don't wanna go
So how am I supposed to slow it down
So I can figure out who I am?

10. What's Up? // 4 Non Blondes

When the professor is talking a mile a minute about something you do not understand

And I say, Hey, yeah, yeah
Hey, yeah, yeah
I said, Hey, Whats going on?

11. Everything I own // Bread

Applying to FASFA in a song...

And I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you

12. Lost // Frank Ocean

When you do not know where your life is headed and you aren't 100% sure what you will do with your major after graduation...

Now you're lost
Lost in the heat of it all
Girl, you know you're lost
Lost in the thrill of it all

13. I'll Be There For You // The Rembrandts

Not only is it the theme song from a GREAT show, but it is pretty much the theme song for most college students.

So no one told you life was gonna be this way
Your job's a joke, you're broke, your love life's D.O.A.
It's like you're always stuck in second gear
When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year

14. Hit Me With Your Best Shot // Pat Benatar

When your professor tells you that the assignment can't be accomplished the night before the due date

Hit me with your best shot
Why don't you hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away

15. I love College // Asher Roth

Because let's be real... despite the stress and tears, we love and appreciate the overall experience.

Do I really have to graduate or can I just stay here the rest of my life?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
