Being A Libertarian In College Means Always Falling Directly In The Middle

Being a libertarian means believing in free will.

I'm Christian, but I support gay marriage. I'm pro-gun and pro-life but don't think that opinion should be forced upon others, especially in times like these. I think legalization of marijuana across the country is something way overdo. I'm a libertarian. I really don't care what anyone else does, as long as it doesn't affect my life. Always being in the middle means having friends on both sides of the political spectrum, but it also means always having to mediate arguments.

It means having your conservative friends scoff at you for openly being a straight ally and your liberal friends asking you why you wouldn't have an abortion if you mistakenly got pregnant.

It means watching your other friends fight over elections, 'Turlington' preachers and marches. It consists of everyone around saying you wasted your vote and asking you if you actually stand for anything.

I stand for me living my life exactly how I want to and others doing the same. I stand for environmental and political justice. I stand for free speech and social change.

I hate watching my friends fight over issues I fall right in the middle of. I hate that they turn to me and ask my opinion, and after doing so they get mad that I don't agree with either of them.

Being a libertarian means believing in free will. I don't feel the need to always shove my personal beliefs and opinions down everyone else's throat. That is until it starts affecting how I'm allowed to live my life. Being a libertarian doesn't mean not caring. It means believing that people should be able to choose how they live their life. That does not ever mean that I wouldn't help someone if they needed it, or if I felt passionately about a issue I wouldn't stand for it. Our society needs to change, and as someone who usually observes from the sidelines, I can clearly see it. There is pain and suffering in this world that needs attention. So try to focus on that instead of how I voted for Gary Johnson. You see falling in the middle of the political spectrum usually means that I'm at the mercy of either extremes. But I've learned to just ignore the haters and keep living my life to the fullest.

And if you are still confused on what being a libertarian means, just look to the inspirational Ron Swanson of Parks and Recreation.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
