My College Fairy Tale

Love definitely can come from unexpected places.

My College Fairy Tale
Brianna Wagner

It's hard to imagine a time when my boyfriend of two years wasn't in my life. We've only known each other for just under three years, yet it seems as though we've known each other our entire lives. That's the craziest part to me; having someone enter your life and then wondering how you ever got along without them. How could someone be one of your biggest supporters, your best friend, your confidant, and everything else you need all wrapped up into one human being that you met by chance? It's crazy I know, but it happened and I couldn't be happier.

You're probably all wondering "Well how did you and this amazing guy meet?" Well allow me to tell you my own personal fairy tale.

During my senior year of high school, I had managed to get into and out of my first ever relationship (I was a late bloomer in the dating department). The break up wasn't exactly the best thing in the world so I decided that I needed a break from dating, guys, and the like.

By this point I had already committed to Arcadia University and was excited to start my college career! After I committed, I was added to the accepted students page on Facebook for my graduating class. It was there that I got a glimpse of some of the people I would be going to school with in a few months, one of which being my boyfriend. One of my friends created a group chat on Facebook Messenger and added nearly everyone on the accepted students page. We spent the entire summer talking about how excited we were for the coming months and how excited we were to meet one another! This group chat was where I talked to my boyfriend for the first time.

I hopped on the group chat after a shift at work and tried catching up on the conversation; a nearly impossible task, but I was up to the challenge. After getting the gist of the conversation, I finally jumped in and added my commentary. Shortly after entering the conversation, a boy with fiery red hair joined in as well. His name was Dominic. As the conversation continued, it was evident that he was being a bit flirtatious with me, so I decided to play along a bit. After a few messages of back and forth between me and this boy, who I have barely interacted with before on the group chat, all of our other friends started saying how cute they thought we were and how much they "shipped us." My one friend Kyle took it to the next level by giving us our 'ship name': Domianna.

At first, Dom and I went along with it, acting all lovey dovey when on the group chat with our friends and accepting our 'ship name' with great pride! I didn't really think anything would come of it though. Being in a relationship was the farthest thing from my mind at that point in my life. I was ready to start a new chapter and wasn't quite ready to jump back into the dating game. But sometimes, life has different plans.

Our group eventually graduated from Facebook Messenger to Skype calls. Every so often, when some of us were all free, we would hop on our computers, log onto Skype and just talk for hours. It was great! On one of these calls, Dom mentioned that he would be visiting his roommate Tyler in the coming weeks. I, along with another friend, just so happened to live on the way so he suggested we meet in person. So we did. After that, Dom and I texted each other every single day

At first it was just getting to know one another; asking questions like "what's your favorite color?" or "do you like the beach?" But it evolved into so much more. We both opened up to one another about things that we haven't told anyone else. We talked about things that mattered and got to know each other on a deep, almost spiritual level. After knowing him for only a few short months, it became clear that Dom was filling a role in the story of my life. What role he took didn't become evident until he asked me out on our first date.

It was certainly a day I'll never forget. He made the grueling two hour drive from his house just to take me out. We had a lovely lunch and did a little walking and talking around the mall. After that we found a cute little clearing where we played some frisbee and continued talking and flirting. We then had dinner at my house and drove to a park nearby to continue our frisbee playing. We ended up taking a nice, relaxing walk while we held hands for the very first time. We stopped by the vending machines to get some water bottles, and then it happened. Dom went for it and we had our first kiss; it made me so happy! A perfect way to end the day and to start off our relationship! That day showed me what a kind, considerate, respectful, loving person he was and I'm so lucky to have him in my life.

I never would've thought that red-haired boy from the group chat would become one of the most important people in my life. He has showed me what I truly deserve in a relationship and has done everything in his power to make me feel like the happiest and most beautiful girl in the world. He loves me for who I am and makes me laugh when I'm feeling down. I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world.

I guess if there's a lesson here, it would be to let life happen. Sometimes you have one thing in mind, but life looks like it has other plans. Roll with the punches and see where things go. Take risks and go for it! Life is to short to wonder "what if..?" And who knows? Maybe you'll end up with someone you love like I did.

Happy Anniversary Honey <3

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
