I still find it hard to believe that it felt like just yesterday when I was learning how to put on ballet shoes for the first time. Now I'm still nostalgic over the fact that I was in a college dance club that opened my eyes to so much. I know what you're probably thinking 'It's just a club.' Well this club was actually the one thing that made me fall in love with dance all over again.
Originally when I transferred I wanted to be part of the Dance Team for the school. But when tryouts didn't exactly go the way that I wanted them too, I wanted to find another opportunity. Then I found out about a dance club on campus from my friend from Long Island. She's choreographed many dances herself and has absolutely killed it every single recital. Sure it was going to have ups and downs along the way but overall I'm glad that she informed me about joining. Being in a college dance club did not just only allow me to meet other individuals that enjoy dance the same way that I do.
But it also taught me the true meaning behind why dance is so important. Of course many will argue to say that dance is not considered a 'sport.' However I for one will argue that with the skill of foot-eye coordination and upper and lower body strength it seems to count to me. It's not just a thing where girls walk around in tutus and show off our moves. It requires much more skills that maintain both the body, mind, and soul.
Dance is so important to me because of how much stress is released from my body when I go through move after move. It helps me relax from anything negative that I may be going through. Overall I've developed friendships that I never would've expected. Especially in my last year being in the club. But of course with every club there are always going to be some disagreements especially when it's all girls around. We're not always expected to get along especially when we get into our moods. But at the end of the day the one thing that we remember is that no matter how much we may seem to disagree with certain things, we just have to always keep in mind that we have the same love for the same thing.
Dance truly keeps me sane and being in a college dance club really taught me more of the value of the club as a whole. It truly showed me that this is something that I will always enjoy till the day I die. No one can take any of that away from me! But I also owe a thank you to my parents for getting me involved in this since I was 4 years old. Thank You Mom and Dad for introducing me to my first love!
