As I think back to my adolescence, my years of shifting between angst and obedience, apathy and passion, one thing was a constant. This thing helped me get through the tough, sleep-deprived mornings, the afternoon struggle to stay awake, and the sleepless nights consisting of hours and hours of homework. This thing allowed me to be awake for important moments: because of this important item I never fell asleep in class nor at work. This thing I relied on so much that this dependence has not been broken throughout the years. The love I have for this thing- which is none other than the greatest drink ever invented- COFFEE- is immeasurable.
For this, I say thank you, coffee, for everything:
- Thank you for giving me the energy to deal with the annoyances of early mornings. Whether it be simply giving me an ounce of energy after the alarm wakes me up unwarranted or when I am forced to socialize and you give me the power to talk to others without irritation, I am grateful for you.
- Thank you for being available everywhere, especially in Seattle. Everywhere I go, I can find you. At hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, and so many other places, you are there for me. How else would I be able to function without my trusty Keurig?
- Speaking of which, thank you for being available to me in such an efficient way in the form of my Mini-Keurig. When I am home or in my dorm room, I simply pop you in the machine, wait a few minutes and you are ready for me, perfectly warm and comfy in my favorite mug.
- Thank you for getting me through the two o’clock struggle- the time in which people are still at work or school and required to be productive but all we feel like doing is sleeping. Thanks for being a good choice to boost our energy without having to take a power nap. Or being a good compliment to the time after our power nap.
- Thank you for comforting me in my time of stress, reassuring me that I can do anything I put my mind to, even at my most exhausted moments.
- With you, a good book, and a cozy blanket, all is right with the world.
- Thank you for having so many different flavors for everyone’s taste buds. Thank you especially for the white chocolate mocha (my personal favorite).
- Thank you for creating a coffeehouse culture. What better time is one in which people are able to share you with their friends whilst studying, socializing, or working? Cafes are the perfect place to do all of these, with calming jazz and the chatter of patrons filling the room with the perfect melodies.
You are more than a drink to me, you are a way of life.
