LaGrange College's Christmas On The Hill

Last Tuesday night, December 1st, LaGrange College hosted Christmas on the Hill. The event was open to students, staff, and the surrounding community.

This event showed one of the many reasons why LaGrange College is so special. By including the community of LaGrange, the college hosted a special event that many different people could enjoy.

Participants could take pictures with Santa and meet his reindeer. Anna and Elsa came all the way from Arendelle and took pictures with the kids. There was an ice-skating rink on the courtyard.

The hill held games, such as Sumo Santa, for children to play, and tents were set up for crafts, such as decorating a Christmas hat. The magical tree-lighting happened at 6:30, and the Young Singers of West Georgia sang during this time.

Although admittance was free, participants were encouraged to bring canned goods or donations. Many attendees did, and these items were donated to Our Daily Bread, the soup kitchen run by LaGrange College students.

Christmas on the Hill has existed for many years, but four years ago, LaGrange College re-imagined Christmas on the Hill in order to reach the community. Each year, a new event is added, although everyone seemed to be the most excited about Santa and the reindeer, and every year, participation doubles.

I was part of the group by the entrance, helping to man the donation table. I saw so many happy children, parents, and college students. At an event like this, there really was something for everyone.

Christmas on the Hill is a unique way to celebrate the holidays since it includes more than just what is typical at holiday events. Everyone has fun and enjoys themselves!

The students and staff members who planned, set up, ran the booths or tents, and cleaned up did an amazing job. Christmas on the Hill was an amazing reminder of how awesome LaGrange College really is!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
