Top 12 Gift Ideas For The Family

It is never easy finding the best gift for the loved ones in your life, but here are a few tips to try to help get you started.

1. The Mom: Shopping for your mom is never going to be easy. Sure she will try ways to stop you from getting her anything, for instance saying that you should save your money instead, but you know she's secretly hoping you'll get her something. A simple suggestion would be cook her her favorite dish, buy or make her a scarf, think of her favorite hobby or flower and get her things to add or start a collection.

2. The Dad: If you think your mother is hard to shop for don't even start on your dad. Gift cards are the way to go. Whether they be to Bass Pro, Oakley, or Dick's Sporting Goods, it doesn't matter. If you get him one to his favorite store you are in the clear.

3. The Brother: Pretty much either purchase a gift card for him as well, depending on his age, or just think about his interest or style and either get him an article of clothing he has been looking at or it doesn't hurt to ask his opinion on what he would like. Sometimes a nice shirt or a book will do the trick.

4. The Sister: Take her shopping with you. If she is older she will be hard to buy for or have specific items in mind. Take her to her favorite clothing store, book store, etc. Gift Cards would be the easiest thing, or you could make her something yourself. It would be more meaningful, you could even do some sort of DIY for her.

5. The Aunt: Almost repeat the same items as the mother and sister. Maybe get her a warm winter scarf, candle, or some sort of homemade item. Maybe write her a letter, do something simple and meaningful.

6. The Uncle: You could almost say the same for your Uncle as your dad, but honestly he should be easier. Give him a card, something meaningful or handwritten. Doesn't matter as long as it is simple, he is not expecting much. Perhaps get him a special ornament of something he is interested or fond of.

7. The Grandma: She is probably one of the most important members to get a gift for. You could get a special matching set of jewelry with her, or maybe do a special spa day, just the two of you. It does not matter really, as long as you are spending time with her. That could even be the gift, spending an entire day with her.

8. The Grandpa: A good book or something to occupy his time with would be a good idea. Something to keep him entertained and happy. Easy and simple.

9. The Best Friend: This should be one of the easier gifts to give. You know so much about this person it should be easy to pull something out of your sleeve to give him or her. Anything they're interested in, tickets to their favorite band, DIY, shopping with them and letting them pick their gift, or you could simply find something that could represent some metaphor or joke that means a lot to the two of you. Whatever works.

10. The Boyfriend: This is easy to. Something romantic and sappy. End of story.

11. The Teacher: Gift cards and candles are always a good bet, as well as food!

12. The Neighbor: A simple Christmas card will suffice, we're not wealthy here.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
