If you have any close friends or family members that are college students studying or planning to major in Elementary Education and you have seen their Christmas Wish List, you may notice a few... interesting items. Here are a few "go to" items your favorite future teacher is probably asking for:

Crayons, Colored Pencils, Markers

Crayola, why bother with anything else?


COFFEE

K-cups, Starbucks, anything with caffeine at this point. When you're putting away 3-5 cups a day you aren't too picky.


"Teacher Clothes"

Cardigans, Sweaters, Dress Pants, Flats Comfortable Flats. Comfort is key when you're on your feet for at least eight hours a day.


Children's Books

All of this years award winners, the list probably includes several Caldecott and Newbery Medal winners.


Grading Pens

I swear by Paper Mate Flair Felt Tips for grading and everything else too!


A Planner

One with a loooooot of room to write in for all those meetings, classes, and lesson plans.


Travel Size Hand Sanitizer

Let's face it, we love our students, but they share everything... including their germs!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines.
