Chloe Ting's 2 Weeks Shred Challenge has been receiving a lot of hype lately. If you're unfamiliar with Chloe, she is a YouTuber who posts free workout programs that are designed to get you in shape quickly. The 2 week shred is her shortest program available, and arguably her most popular.
With the gyms being closed, my mom and I have been searching for ways to stay in shape during quarantine. After hearing about the 2 week shred from both my friends and social media, I decided to hop on the bandwagon.
I discovered that there are many pros and cons to completing the shred. Let's get started with the pros.
It works for all fitness levels.
I loved that my mom and I were able to do this program together even though we are at different fitness levels. Chloe offers a modification for pretty much every move, allowing you to choose high or low impact.
It promotes consistency.
When trying to get in shape or lose weight, consistency is key. The idea that it was only two weeks allowed me to stay on track. Also, if I weren't following a schedule, I would've been much more tempted to slack off and not workout.
No equipment needed.
If you don't have weights at home, that's totally fine. The only thing I used was a yoga mat for the ab moves.
It's free.
I think this one speaks for itself.
Now that we've discussed what I like about the 2 Weeks Shred Challenge, let's unpack what I don't like.
It's repetitive .
Around day seven, I started to get tired of doing the same videos over and over. I also noticed that the moves tend to repeat throughout the videos.
Lots of planks.
I found myself yelling at my laptop every time Chloe said "up and down planks."
It's painful.
You could argue that my form may have been wrong, but some of the moves were really hurting my wrists. I also kept finding new bruises on my legs.
It's fast-paced.
For someone who is just starting to workout, the fast pace can be overwhelming. The breaks in between moves are also short, but you can pause the video as needed.
So, is the 2 Weeks Shred Challenge worth the hype? Personally, I don't think so. Although I did start to see improvement in my body, the repetitiveness of the videos was a dealbreaker for me. I think Chloe's programs are a good option for people that are looking for free at-home workouts, but it's definitely not the only option. I personally prefer to change up my workouts everyday so my body doesn't get used to the moves, and I don't get sick of the workouts. However, if you're looking for a program to get you motivated, I think this is a good place to start.
