I recently did Chloe Ting's four week summer shred program and let me tell you it kicked my butt, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. While doing the program, I noticed there were a few things that made staying on track with the workouts much easier. Here are five things that really helped me. I hope they can help you too!
1. Put on workout clothes as your first outfit of the day
Yes, I know quarantine has most likely reduced your daily outfits to sweat sets or day old pajamas, but putting on your workout clothes first thing in the morning will prevent the internal battle of having to change later before you workout. It's way easier to beat procrastination when you're already set for your activity.
2. Have a friend do the challenge with you
The beauty of Chloe Ting's challenges are that they're online and they're free. Workout schedules are so much easier to maintain when you have someone there to go through it with you. Daily check ins with friends can help you commiserate the sore muscles and celebrate the small victories. And if you can't find anyone to join you in your Chloe Ting journey try turning to the internet. Right now with Ting's workouts trending, so many people are documenting their journeys. Following along with a complete stranger might help you feel less alone and could cause you to end up making a new friend.
3. Utilize the low impact versions
While doing her routines, Chloe Ting will often offer a simplified, "low impact" version of the move. Use these moves! I would use them if I wasn't yet strong enough to do the move she was doing, but also when I felt I needed a short break from her main exercise. These low impact alternatives can serve as the quick breather you might need from the routine. They might also save you from laying on the floor until the next exercise like you want to. Also, once you've been doing her videos for a while and you realize you can now do the regular version when before you could only do the low impact version - there is no greater feeling.
4. Find a good workout spot
Find a spot where you feel most comfortable and designate that space for your workouts. For me, I do best working out in my basement. It's cool, it's out of the way, and I can put the workouts on my tv and pretend I'm at my own private class. As the weather has gotten warmer I've had friends move their workouts outside. Since Chloe Ting's videos can be viewed anywhere with access to youtube, the possibilities for your workout spot are endless.
5. Welcome the struggle
Chloe Ting workouts are hard; and they're especially difficult in the beginning. If you want to get through a month of her routines it's best to welcome the idea that you may not be able to do every workout your first time around. Her workouts are tough but as you do them over and over again they will get easier and you will get stronger.
Chloe Ting has taught me so much in this past month. I've learned it's okay to take a short rest if you need it, but it's also okay to push yourself because you'll be surprised with your capabilities. As far as trends and challenges go, this is one I'll always be proud I did. I hope you'll be proud if you choose to do it too.
