What I learned From Chi Alpha

God gave me this life because He knows that I am strong enough to live it.

What I learned From Chi Alpha

What is Chi Alpha? Chi Alpha is sometimes also referred to as XA is a Christian ministry for college students. Chi Alpha's motto is: "Every student goes, every student gives, every student prays, and every student welcomes." I ultimately found a family that I didn't know I was looking for, a family who welcomed me with open arms. Last semester, I used to attend the meetings every Tuesday night and have small group on Thursday nights. But for this semester, life just got too busy with my schoolwork and work for me to go anymore. Every day, in the back of my mind I carry the Chi Alpha message with me.

When I was young I only went to church a handful of times. I didn't have any experience with God. I didn't have Bible verses memorized. I didn't listen to Christian music. I didn't do a lot of things, but when I joined XA, everything changed for me. I came into the group really lonely, sad, and lost. After the semester ended everything in my life improved. I started reading the Bible, working on devotions and focusing on myself more. I believe that there is something bigger out there than humans. I believe in the out-of-body experiences and the stories. I started to memorize verses like:

Chi Alpha was my first real church experience that I have ever had. I learned so much from the students and my peers. Each person has a different story and each person carries his or her story differently. I learned to focus on myself more, stay positive, stay motivated, be happy, live life, take risks sometimes and don't plan out my life because God has already done that part for me. Randall and Lacy are my XA parents and my peers are my brothers and sisters. I love these people because they always have something funny or positive to say especially on the days when I really need it. I always have someone to call when I need a friend to talk or rant to. I have people praying for me and I pray for them. Being involved makes me happy.

My relationship with God is improving every day and I know that He is always watching out for me and guiding me. I am blessed beyond words and completely thankful for the experiences that I have already had in just one semester of college. I am so excited for my future and I am beyond thankful for everything in my life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
