Cheers To The Roommate Who Turned Into My Best Friend

Thanks for always being there at the end of the day...even though you have no choice because we live together.

Cheers To The Roommate Who Turned Into My Best Friend

Just like every other upcoming college freshman this summer, I went through the process of looking for the perfect roommate via Facebook stalking. I think anyone who has been through this can attest to the fact that it's basically online dating. I'm almost positive I was practically flirting with every girl hoping she thought I was nice and cute enough to room with. After a week or two of repeated conversations with different people I finally came across someone who I could finally see myself living with. From what I could tell, she seemed down to earth and pretty similar to me. I was just hoping to get someone I could get along with who would occasionally share some laughs with me. Fortunately for me, I got so much more than that. So here's some things I want to address and thank her for as our first semester of college together comes to an end.

Thank you for...

1. Always getting pizza with me at 2 a.m. because you know I can't sleep on an empty stomach.

2. Making awkward silence not awkward.

3. Letting me wear anything that's in your closet without asking.

4. Always knowing what I'm going to say before I say it.

5. Laying on the floor with me laughing until we are genuinely in tears.

6. Waking me up when my 10 minute naps are about to turn in 5 hour ones.

7. Taking my laundry out of the dryer when I leave.

8. Having crazy nights with me.

9. Always being on the same page as me with just about everything.

10. Putting up with my shit like no one else can.

I will always appreciate...

1. Our Saturday mornings when we lay in bed and talk about the night before.

2. Our deep late night talks that keep us up for hours and typically involve tears.

3. Your "I miss you" texts when we are home on break.

4. The fact that you let me vent to you endlessly.

5. How messy we both are but how clean we can be when we put our minds to it.

6. Our trips to the library spending hours talking and 10 minutes doing actual work.

7. You coming to my rescue when I have a mental break down in the middle of the week.

8. How we are so compatible and have never had a single fight.

9. You telling me "no" when I'm about to spend real money on Chipotle instead of just swiping on my meal plan.

10. How brutally honest you'll be with, especially if the dress DOES make me look fat.

11. The fact that you supported me while I was rushing a sorority, and even bought me breakfast before my first day of recruitment.

I love you even though...

1. You make me fall asleep with the lights on because you're still studying.

2. You make me go out when I am 9 times out of 10 too lazy.

3. You tell me what I need to hear when I sometimes don't want to hear it.

4. I'll look for a shirt for 20 minutes and later see that actually you're just wearing it.

5. Your side of the room is somehow always messier.

6. You embarrass me by making me laugh hysterically in public.

7. Your alarm clock goes off 10 times in the morning.

8. I tell you not to study in bed because you're gonna fall asleep but you do it anyway.

9. You drive me crazier than anyone else I know.

I genuinely don't know how I got so lucky sharing a room with someone that I can't imagine going through college without. My favorite memories are when we're in public and someone asks us if we're sisters. It's so amusing how people are shocked when they find out that we didn't know each other before college. All in all, thank for being my right hand and my go-to gal. I don't know how I could do this college thing without you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
