Cheers To Sisters

To my sorority and all the memories that come with it.

Cheers To Sisters

To My Sorority Sisters,

Cheers to you for coming to me with open arms during rush week and showing me about the group in just four short days. I will never forget all of you applauding and cheering me on when I received a bid from the sorority during one of the most nerve-racking, yet exhilarating, days of my college experience. I still remember running to you in tears when I heard my name called like it was yesterday.

Cheers to you for helping me through my new member process and answering the numerous questions I had. To my pledge mom, I can’t express in words how grateful I am to you for helping me and my pledge sisters learn all the ins and outs of the organization, and I’m glad you still turn your head when one of us yell, “Mom!” You helped me learn so much, not only about the sorority but myself in just six short weeks.

Cheers to my pledge sisters. Thank you for going through the finest experience of my life alongside me and becoming my backbone. I remember all of us studying the sorority’s history and information in the library for hours upon hours before our weekly meetings. The bond we’ve formed is so strong that nothing will tear us apart. No other girls will replace the ups and downs that we went through together. I truly believe that we will be best friends forever no matter how old we are.

Cheers to my Big Sister. Big, thank you for taking me under your wing as your ‘Little’ by adding me to your family line. You’ve become my mentor and mother here at school. I can’t repay the amount of time and money you’ve spent on me making a paddle, crafting decorations for my dorm room, creating letters for me to wear proudly, and knowing that you’re always up for a coffee date during the day to just talk and catch up. I’m truly honored to be your ‘Little’ and I can’t wait to add to our family line.

Cheers for philanthropy and getting me involved with the charitable and humanity side of the sorority. I have volunteered more since becoming a member and there’s no greater feeling than completing a project to see someone smile and benefit from it. The passion you have to help those in need reminds me why I joined Greek life. The positions I have undertaken have helped me grow as a young adult and have given me confidence and experience for the real world after college.

Cheers for the social side of the sorority for showing me how to have a good time in all that I do and whatever I do. Whenever I want to paint the town red, a sister is always there to accompany me. The relationships I have built with fellow Greek societies, as well as other clubs on campus, have been positively over-whelming. The social aspect has given me life-long friends and has helped me break through my introverted shell.

Lastly, cheers for sisterhood and being my family-away-from-family. Every single one of you sisters has a special place in my heart. The many laughs, hardships, and memories we have shared together will stick with me long after our college years and I will reminisce on them decades from now. I know my college experience wouldn’t be the same without you and I could not thank you enough.

Cheers to you,

A fellow sorority sister.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
