Throughout my childhood, I have seen many friends come and go from my life. Luckily, I have found a few friends who I can now call my best friends, and they mean the world to me. So I'd like to take the time to celebrate our times together and thank them for all of the times I might have forgotten to tell them how much I appreciate everything they do for me.
I know that I sometimes forget that even though I am grateful for the help my friends bring me in all of life’s battles, I do not always show how grateful I am in words or actions. Because in those moments, I tend to be overly distracted by stress and anxiety that saying thank you slips my mind completely.
So, for all of those times when you drove me to the places I needed to be, or for the times you let me tag along while you were busy running errands, or even the times when you picked me up from class because it was raining and I forgot an umbrella, thank you. For the times when I would rant about something so trivial, and you sat across from me to listen and give advice, thank you; I don’t know how you didn’t yell at me and tell me I’ve lost my marbles after the fifth rant of the day. The amount of patience you have with me is astounding, but I know that I can be as patient as you when I need to be the listener.
I’m grateful that you share with me your thoughts and ideas about the world, and that you drag me along on your crazy adventures, even the “adventures” to get food in the drive-thru at 4:00 in the morning. I love it when you tell me funny stories or use different voices to give me a play-by-play of some drama that you witnessed going on earlier in the day.
In those moments of grief where the world seems to be a terrible place, thank you for making me smile through the tears, and laugh while crying tears of joy instead. When you make me laugh, the pain I felt before begins to melt a little quicker, and I can return to being happier much sooner than if I didn’t have you there with me.
When someone asks me about who you are, I smile and tell them your name and that we’re best friends, not because I feel that you should automatically have that title, but because you earned it by being who you are. You’re my best friend because you inspire me to be a better me and to dream big in life. You tell me when I’m being crazy, excluding rant sessions, and you let me know that I’m treading dangerous waters when I start to act lazy and procrastinate. If I didn’t have you, oh man, I would be lost all of the time and scream to the sky “WHY ME?!?!” every day of the week.
Most importantly, thank you for making time in your schedule when you have zero free time to begin with because you know I need you to save me from myself when I’m on the brink of disaster. I love you buddy, never lose sight of that as long as we’re together.
