Last year was such a shit show when it came to guys. It seemed like we couldn't go a day watching or reading about a sexual allegations, plus the feminist fight against sexism took power. Lucky for you fellas, 2018 is for the guys, because you will prove how chivalry is not dead. Or so a girl can wish.

1. Hold the door open when she walks through.

Yeah, girls can do it themselves. And sometimes they really want to do it themselves. But make a game out of it, and try to beat her to it anyway. In fact, just hold the door for anyone. It's just common courtesy.

2. Buy her chocolate.

Even the littlest gifts that say you were thinking of her will win her over.

3. Cook her dinner once in a while.

Some guys are actually great at cooking, and so it is easy to accomplish this task. But even if you're only decent, the girl cares more about the principle of making an effort and spending time with her than the actual food. Besides, you can always order Chinese food if all else fails.

4. Support her activities even when you're not interested.

You might not like what she wears or how she sings, but if you let her do the things she enjoys, she'll be happier, and then you'll be happier.

5. Choose a couple activity to try out.

Maybe it's dancing lessons, or a painting class--whatever it is, it will give you both a chance to accomplish something together that pays off in the long run. At least find something to do together that interests the both of you.

6. Get creative.

Nothing is worse than a girl watching countless viral videos of guys doing something elaborate and creative for their significant other. Okay, not everyone was born with the creative gene, but it's the thought that counts.

7. Have fun with your dating profile.

Does it hurt to put a little personality into your dating profile? Remember Jared from Tinder with the sense of humor? We may not know if he was successful in the long run, but he was certainly great at the originality needed to get a girl to swipe his way.

8. Don't ask her if she's DTF right off the bat.

You're way more guaranteed to get lucky if you have a decent conversation with her. The payoff is way more worth it if you're patient.

9. Groom yourself.

It's 2018 guys, which means that a) we're all adults and b) it's easier than ever to know how to take care of yourself. Look up youtube videos. Buy a planner. Wipe the toilet seat. WIPE THE DAMN TOILET SEAT.

10. Take her to dinner.

Go ahead roll your eyes when I say this: treat her like a princess. BUT while you roll your eyes, go refer to #8 and trust me. It's worth the effort.

11. Don't get drunk or get her drunk in hopes of better results.

This should be a no for 2018. Sure there's a time and place where this makes for a good time, but spending time with someone should not solely depend on alcohol for success. It's really actually a pathetic move if that's the only way you can impress someone (or get them to hook up with you).

12. Tease her a little bit, but know where to draw the line.

Girls like a little bit of teasing, but sometimes guys take it too far. Sometimes teasing leads to hitting a sensitive spot, or the guy just sounds like an asshole. How do you solve this issue? You can...

13. Listen to her.

Communication is and forever will be the most important thing ever. Learn how to listen to her without arguing or thinking of the next thing to say while she's talking.

14. Look her in the eyes.

I'm not saying look into her eyes, like some rom-com movie, although not a bad idea. I mean use eye contact as a sign of respect.

15. Be ambitious for something.

Nothing is sexier than a guy with goals. Can we keep that up?

16. Stop talking poorly of women.

It's not cute. Not cute. Not cute. NOT. CUTE.

17. And lastly, women wish they didn't have to worry about sexual harassment or abuse in the dating scene.

If the woman says no, you say no too. End of story. If it's so hard for you to respect that, maybe consider some male chauvinist behavior classes and go fuck yourself.

I know a majority of men are capable of treating women right when it comes to dating, so there is hope for the rest. If you want to be the best at being manly, learn to be proud of and respectful to your woman. I promise you'll be rewarded.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from.
