Dear Cat Callers,
There is a difference between genuinely complimenting a woman and disrespectfully calling out her body. I know that I don't look my age. Honestly, I look like a 16-year-old, and this is scary because it was even prior to that young age that I learned how men get a woman's attention. How creepy!
I remember sitting in a movie theater waiting for my parents to come back and two men behind me asking me, "Hey beautiful, how's it going?" I was only 13. I don't want to shame anyone for how they go about playing the field, but really, it's getting so out of hand.
I am 100 percent positive that all of the females in my life can't walk down the street without hearing a few whistles or watching someone's eyes fall below our chins. Either you think you are being discreet, or frankly you don't give a $h*t.
Here's the thing -- men and women are both human beings. Shocking! You guys act as though you have never seen a woman in your life. Like we are some foreign entity that you absolutely have to examine until we are out of your sight. Like a whistle or a "hey there" is what will get our attention. I'm laughing out loud as I write this letter, because that is so foolish on your part!
Not only is it creepy to cat call, but it is insulting! As we walk past you, is there really nothing else you can do except comment on our bodies? The same human body that is hidden underneath your own clothes. Who would've thought a person would rather have a conversation than get her boobs and butt stared at?
I must say I absolutely don't apologize for my letter, because I can only put up with so much. This isn't even about me actually. This is about slapping all of you across the face and asking you, what if this were your daughter? Treat us like people, not like animals. Thanks!
Sincerely,
A frustrated female
