It’s the most wonderful time of the year! If you’re big on the Halloween holiday, you must be excited for hayrides, apple cider donuts, and of course, all the scary movies! Hocus Pocus has been a fall favorite since its release in 1993. Over two decades later, the Sanderson Sisters still hold a special place in our spider web-adorned hearts. If you were a kid in the 1990s, you can probably recite the entire movie verbatim – but, how well do you know the actors that gave life to our favorite Halloween movie characters? Here are some fun facts about the Hocus Pocus cast!

Winifred Sanderson – Bette Midler

  • She is only 5’1”
  • Was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Graduated as the valedictorian of her high school class
  • She was Johnny Carson’s final guest on The Tonight Show


Max Dennison – Omri Katz

  • His parents are from Israel, and he lived there as a child
  • Plays the drums
  • Guest appeared on General Hospital in 2000 as a tattoo artist
  • He is currently working as a hairdresser in Los Angeles


Dani Dennison – Thora Birch

  • She has a green belt in karate
  • Is a vegetarian
  • Filmed a nude scene for American Beauty at only 16 years old
  • Once gained 20 pounds for a movie role


Allison – Vinessa Shaw

  • She also works as a model, and was featured in a Calvin Klein eyewear ad
  • Is terrified of horror movies, and refused to watch her own work when she played Lynn Carter in The Hills Have Eyes
  • Began her career as a director in 2016


Sarah Sanderson – Sarah Jessica Parker

  • Played Annie in the original Broadway production of “Annie”
  • She was the only main actress in Sex and The City to have never done any nudity on the show
  • Was denied the lead role in Pretty Woman (which went to Julia Roberts)
  • Studied drama at HB Studio in NYC – and so did Bette Midler!


Mary Sanderson – Kathy Najimy

  • Was the voice of Peggy Hill on King of The Hill
  • Is a feminist and an LGBT rights activist
  • Before her acting career, she appeared on Family Feud and won the grand prize of $10,000


Thackery Binx – Sean Murray


  • He is best known for his role as Timothy McGee in NCIS
  • Has dual citizenship in the U.S. and Australia
  • Once played two different characters in the same show called JAG

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
