Those of you who know me, know that I have had my handful of bad driving experiences; from crashing into trees, getting stuck in ditches, or hitting parked objects. But hitting a cop car was a new one for the list.
The incident occurred when I was driving downtown in my hometown. I exited a roundabout and continued onto a two-lane road. A car in my lane in front of me had its hazards on and was pulled over to the side.
Seeing this, I realized I needed to move left to get around the vehicle. As I steer left, there was a cop behind me with his lights on who was trying to get around me. The road was not big enough for the both of us and our cars completely scraped sides. We pulled to the side immediately.
The whole thing happened so quickly, I did not hear the cop coming since his sirens were not on, and oddly enough I did not see him coming when I checked my mirrors.
After the whole incident occurred, I felt extreme guilt because I had just slowed stopped a cop who was obviously in a rush to get somewhere more important.
The cop could not have been more friendly and understanding of the situation. Two more units had to come, one being the supervisor of the police department.
While this is happening, I just sat in my car trying not to cry. The cop inspected both of our cars for damage. His had a few scratches but mine had no new damage, just the same old dents, and scratches from previous incidents. After checking my license and registration, the supervisor gave me his card and said to my parents and me to call his number.
I was not given a ticket, thankfully, and I was finally free to go. The officers were so kind and helpful to me, someone who has never been pulled over before. The experience was not fun but makes for an interesting story to tell.
