I’m The Girl Who’s Excited To Go Back To School, And I’m Not Ashamed Of It

Back to school season is my favorite season!

Those of you who know me know how much I dreaded going to school in grade school. I complained about it every single day and never wanted to go. Then, I went to college, and my whole perception of the back to school season changed.

If it were two years ago or more and a back to school commercial came on, I would be rolling my eyes. It's still summer and I don't want to be thinking about going back yet! Now when I see anything that involves school supplies, I get overly excited.

This was my first college summer. I just finished my freshman year in the beginning of May, and saying that I loved school that year was an understatement. I found out what I loved to do, I met my people, and I fell in love with the atmosphere of Temple and everything about it. I didn't want to leave for almost four months after my last final was done!

When I was in high school, summer break wasn't very long, it was two and a half months, which didn't feel long enough. Now, having almost four months worth of summer vacation feels way too long -- I was ready to go back to school in July. I now have less than two weeks left until I start the fall semester, and my backpack is already packed and ready to go. I'm not kidding.

Whenever I tell my younger friends that I can't wait for school to start back up again, I always get the same response: "Why???"

I'm sure all college students face the same struggle as I do. The main reason why I'm so excited to go back to school is to see my friends. With my luck, the majority of the friends I made my freshman year live over two hours away from me, so I couldn't see them at all over break. I miss them all so much, and I cannot wait to see them. Four months is way too long.

Another reason is that I'm insanely bored. Yes, I do have a job, but I don't have much else to keep me occupied besides Netflix, Hulu, writing Odyssey articles, and editing and posting blogs to the PRSSA website. It's weird to think, but I miss the homework and the organization of everything. It keeps me busy and makes me feel productive.

I absolutely cannot wait to return to campus in just under two weeks. I'm that person who is extremely excited to go back to school, and I'm really not ashamed to admit that. In fact, I embrace it. I'm so happy that I chose a school that I love, found a career path that I love, and found some of my best friends that I love and miss so much, and I'm so excited to take on my sophomore year.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
