I'll just say it outright - I'm angry. I'm furious, enraged, heartbroken, somber and at a complete loss of words and thoughts about the events in Orlando. Every time I see an American flag floating at half-staff recently, I again dwell on the 49 loving, amazing lives that we as a country lost on Sunday morning. These people did not deserve for an act so full of hate and malice to be brought upon them. If there is ANY group of people that understand the true meaning of love, it is the LGBTQ+ community. Through all of the hate and ill-intent that has been sent their way throughout the years, their love for one another, their family, their friends and their beliefs has been unquestionably unmatched. To the LGBTQ+ community, I stand with you. My heart broke with yours on Sunday morning and you have my full support. This was an attack on humanity.
Below you will see my views on this situation. I know many others share the same and I know many others do not. But something absolutely needs to be done; a change is perilously essential to stop these mass shootings and gun violence in general. I wish I could say I apologize for the following sarcasm and anger, but I really don't. Enough is finally enough.
There needs to be a change. Right now. Enough is enough. There should have been change a long time ago instead of continuing to wait for more innocent lives to be lost. To say that there isn't an issue in the United States with gun control is complete lunacy and recklessness. No...I do not want to take away your pistols, or your muzzle-loaders, or your .30-06. You can bet I sure as hell want regulation on the purchase of them, though. But, after yet another massacre on American soil... yes, I do want to take away your assault rifles. Let me say that again...your ASSAULT RIFLES. Actually, let me take a step back before some gun enthusiasts hop on their machine gun mounted, smoking barrel high horses. For the sake of you guys, I'll say (just this once), assault-"style" rifle. Since you think the caliber of an AR-15 isn't lethal enough but we'll get to that later, don't you worry. But there's a reason this weapon has been a top choice for mass-shooting lunatics. But you go ahead and keep telling yourself that everyone needs one of these guns. The family of the man (Eugene Stoner) who invented the AR-15 has even stated he would be sickened to see that his creation has been used for these mass shootings. Why? Because he created them as weapons of war to counter the AK-47, not for civilian purchase. It was only after he passed away did the rifle become popular among citizens.

I want to take this time to address those who think it's a good idea to keep blocking and rejecting bills that could have very well helped prevent this tragedy, and many others before this. And I want to say that you should be ashamed of yourselves. At what cost will it take for you to sack up and realize that what you are doing is wrong? HEY NRA, yes, you, the National Rifle Association! Is another 49 innocent lives not enough for you to realize that paying politicians to keep the accessibility of military-grade assault rifles is 100 percent wrong? There have been many bills shot down that would have made it illegal for the Orlando shooter to purchase a weapon, let alone an AR-15. And the politicians accepting this money are just as guilty as the NRA themselves. You know who you are. Stop being so foolishly selfish. Your money is not worth any more innocent, American lives. As far as I'm concerned, some of this blood is in your hands.
$27 million. Is it still worth it?
The only people that should have their hands on these types of weapons are those whose professions need them, such as military and law enforcement. Assault rifles were made and have evolved for military purposes, not civilian affairs. If you honestly keep on putting your faith in the belief that there isn't anything wrong with our gun control in America, I would just love to hear your explanation of why our country is home to more than 60 percent of the mass shootings around the world. Does that number resonate with you at all? We hold 5 percent of the world's population and we are responsible for more than half of its mass shootings. No one needs a f****** assault rifle to protect your average suburban home in your gated community. And before you speak, let me debunk some of your common, idiotic, simple-minded excuses for you:
1. "Well we didn't ban airplanes after 9/11. And why don't we just ban cars as well? They kill people all the time."
2. "It's the person killing people, not the gun."
Before we get started, let's do a quick activity quick. To all of those who believe that these excuses help explain America's disgusting amount of mass shootings, I want you to go into your bathroom and look in the mirror. Put a bar of soap in your mouth, swallow it like a big pill, and then slap yourself across the face as hard as you can. Ready? OK, let's break this down:
Airplanes, and motor vehicles were built for the sole purpose of getting people from point A, to point B. They were built for transportation of human beings. They were built for our convenience. And what did we do after 9/11? We REGULATED airline travel. We tightened security. We regulated policies. And there's a reason every car commercial you see now claims vehicles are safer than ever before. Why? Because when people are injured or killed, things...get...regulated.
And guns? They have literally been built TO KILL THINGS. Assault rifles have been catered for the military to KILL PEOPLE. If you are not military personnel, you absolutely, positively do not need an assault rifle. As for it not being the actual gun not killing people, I don't even know how you can think this way. Let's make it simple for you; if the same person walked into that club and started throwing fists, 49 people wouldn't be dead. But because his unstable mind and agenda were allowed to legally purchase a semi-automatic weapon designed for soldiers, lives were lost. Please take some time to think about this.
"Oh, but the caliber of the rifle is just enough to kill them darn rabbits runnin' around my yard! This isn't an assault rifle!" You say even after the fact 49 people were killed in a matter of minutes by the same weapon you are referring to. This weapon has 30 round mags that can be fired in rapid succession, reloaded quickly, and has available rail systems for attachments making it easier to maneuver, aim, and fire. Sounds just like the ease of use an M4 has, doesn't it? How strange!? Bottom line: this weapon killed 49 people in minutes. It's an assault rifle. I have fired one. I know what they can do.
An AR-15 with a .223 caliber round isn't very powerful? Eugene Stoner didn't think so when he created the weapon for soldiers.
As for the shooter. Like many other news outlets and public figures, I will not say his name. I will not show his picture. His troubled mind does not deserve the attention he more than likely hoped he would get. Yes, he supposedly pledged his allegiance to ISIS. But he was born an American citizen. He more than likely had no formal type of training through ISIS or any other extremist group. Yes, this was a terrorist attack. It was a hate crime. It was an attack on all humans. But it does not need to be labeled "Radical Islam" to explain it. Because this man was not Islamic. He was an extremist, and that alone. Islam is the second largest religion in the world. The people who pledge their allegiance to these extremist groups are rejected by those other some 1.29999 billion who practice the true Islam religion. This man was under FBI investigation, and showed signs of mental instability. And yet he walked into a gun store empty handed, and walked out with an AR-15.
Before this letter ends, I have one last request to those who still refuse to reform our gun policies. I'm maybe a little sorry that I asked you to slap yourself and swallow a bar of soap. If you didn't do that, at least do this:
I want you to go through your daily routine tomorrow. Wake up, shower, eat breakfast. Kiss and hug your loved ones goodbye as you walk out the door. Whatever your daily ritual may be. And I want you to think what it would be like to come home and never be able to say goodbye or hello to your loved ones again. Maybe they took a trip to the mall that day, maybe they just went to school or work. Maybe they were out dancing at a club. I want you to think about the phones ringing in the pockets of the deceased because their loved ones want to know if they are OK. And now I want you to think if it is worth more blood spilled on American soil to keep the accessibility to assault weapons so easy. Sure, these extremists and evil driven individuals may still be able to find a way to get their hands on one of these weapons. But there is nothing wrong with making it much harder for them to do so.
Lastly, read every single on of these names. Because every one of these people had a life, just as you do. They loved and were loved, just as you are. And all of that was taken away from them as easily as an assault weapon can be purchased by a lunatic under FBI investigation.
To the Orlando victims, rest peacefully. Your love still shines down on us. To those who are mourning, I am deeply, deeply sorry for your losses. Know that these people were loved, and their legacies will live on. Know that you have millions of people around the world who have your back. Know that love will always win over hate. Good will always triumph over evil. Always.
