It is still early on in the year, so it is possible that the idea of dining hall food does not make you squeamish…yet.
But, soon enough, you will refuse to eat the same old burnt chicken, under cooked meatballs, and fattening pizza. When this time does come, you will want options. Luckily, Syracuse has a few.
Newhouse Café has everything you need.
Ever walk into Newhouse and see that line wrap around the lobby? That line goes to Food.com, the Newhouse Café. Here you can find just about anything. Breakfast is one of the busiest times of day. Food.com has some of the best smoothies to give you a little pick me up for those early classes. You can never go wrong with ordering one of their various breakfast sandwiches. Plus, the food is affordable and filling.
A Café in Slocum is a hidden delight.
Recently, I stumbled upon a Café in Slocum. It is an underground, small café that many people just pass right by. But do not be mistaken. The food here is incredible. If you are in the mood for a filling Panini, various types of sandwiches, or even just a quick yogurt, stop on by to Slocum. Not only is the food a nice break from the dining hall, but also the sitting area is normally very quiet. Take a load off your feet and relax while having a great lunch there.
People’s Place is the best little hideaway in Hendricks’s Chapel.
If you haven’t been to People’s Place yet, do you even go to Syracuse? They serve mainly drinks like coffee and hot chocolate, but if you are in a rush for class one day, they have plenty of muffins and bagels. They are most known for their drink, the Austin Powers. It is a mixture of hot chocolate, coffee, and chocolate milk. Who could want anything more? The coffee is so much cheaper than from Starbucks or Dunkin and it tastes even better.
For those of you who spend a lot of time in the library, you never have to leave the comfort of the building for food ever again.
On the main floor of Bird there is a cafe where you can get just about anything. Scones and yogurt to premade salads are all options. This café has several healthy options and is conveniently located for when you are studying for hours at a time.
You can enjoy any meal at Schine.
The Schine cafeteria has a Dunkin' Donuts to crave your breakfast and coffee needs. It also has a Sparrow for those days you want to treat yourself to a nice pizza. For those of you who want the healthier option, there is also a make your own salad bar. My personal favorite part of Schine is the sandwich station. You can get just about anything you can imagine in Schine.
So, when you are finally sick of Ernie or Graham dining centers, don’t feel like you are out of options. There are plenty of cafes and options throughout all of the Syracuse Campus!
