So, the most “dramatic season” and the most “dramatic finale” in “Bachelor history” turned out to be well, quite frankly, pretty average. If anything, maybe the editing was above average. And yes, there was more suspense. And yes, Ben now seems like kind of a jerk for leading two women on by telling both of them he loves them, but at the end of the day, Ben was a great Bachelor. And it was a great season. The thing is, though, the finale just didn’t quite live up to my expectations, and I will forever be #teamjojo.
The reason I had such high expectations for the finale was in part because the season had been so good in general, but the main reason was because of the previews shown leading up to the finale, and during commercial breaks of the finale. The editors cut footage, very cleverly I may add, that showed Ben crying and seeming remorseful and potentially even calling the girl he said bye to in order to tell her he had made a mistake. I was convinced he was going to call Jojo back until the literal second he was on his knees proposing to Lauren B. (or is it just Lauren now?)
The finale was a bit of an emotional roller coaster for me. As a devoted and loyal Jojo proponent, I felt betrayed by Ben when he sent her home. How could he break my, I mean her, heart like that? It just didn’t seem fair. Honestly, I thought I was going to be traumatized; I may never be able to believe in love again. I mean can you blame me? Ben told her countless times that he cared for and even loved her. What kind of excuse is “I found love with someone else more?” Okay Ben, sure, because love is quantitative, yea that makes sense.
The only reason I’m not still an emotional wreck is because bae Chris Harrison announced during the “After the Final Rose” special that queen J would be the next “Bachelorette.” The entire time I thought it was going to be Caila, and I honestly don’t know if I would have been able to watch that season, especially after Jojo’s heartbreaking loss. Thank God Jojo will be the next Bachelorette because if not, Chris Harrison would be receiving a lot of angry fan mail from my University of Richmond P.O. box.
And seriously, Jojo is actually going to be amazing as the Bachelorette. She’s funny, she’s gorgeous, she seems genuine, and I seriously can’t wait to watch her brothers interrogate whichever lucky suitors are fortunate enough to meet her overly protective brothers. I can smell the guy drama from here.
All in all, as I have always said, season 20 of “The Bachelor” was a great one, despite the less than pleasing ending. Here’s hoping Queen J lives up to the perfect persona she has already created and continues to make us envious of her amazingness every Monday night.
P.S. I totally signed my brothers up to be contestants on the show next season without them knowing just so I would have the chance to meet Jojo, so fingers crossed they get picked!
