It sucks to be a burnt-out college student.
We miss our home. We miss whoever waits for us there, whether that be parents, grandparents, etc. We miss our pets, we miss the comfy couches in the living room or the familiarity of driving through a town we love. We really want to come home.
We're tired. When I say we're tired, I mean we're exhausted. We are forever thankful for the opportunity to go to school, however, we are in a state of constant exhaustion. Between projects, homework, studying for exams, late nights, and somehow trying to fit in a social life, we really just need a long nap.
We're hungry. Some of us are master chefs, but those who aren't are ready for a home-cooked meal. We're tired of cooking whatever takes the least amount of time, the least amount to prepare, and we eat more frozen foods than we can count. All we want is a nice meal, however, a lot of us cannot afford to eat out, so the closest home-cooked meal we'll be getting will most likely be popped into the microwave.
We're stressed. This is probably the most obvious aspect of being a burnt-out college student. Between planning what we want to do with our lives, constantly worrying about school, not getting the correct amount of sleep, and somehow trying to fit in time to relax, we are at our wit's end. We're stressed and crabby so don't get too close.
We're sad. We really want a vacation, but unfortunately, not all of us can go to Fort Lauderdale for breaks or have family in another state. We really need some vitamin D, and the Midwest winter is still going strong.
We need support. We know that we're working hard, but oftentimes we need validation. We need someone to tell us that our hard work isn't going unnoticed. We need someone to tell us we're doing great and to not give up because sometimes we truly feel like quitting.
We overall are tired. We're stressed, hungry, sleepy, but most importantly determined. It's hard to be a burnt-out college student, especially after midterms of spring semester. If you know a college student, give them a hug, tell them you love them and explain how proud you are. At this point in the year, we're full of self-doubt, therefore we just need a little reassurance that all of our hard work will be work it.
