I'm afraid to talk about my mental health. There is such a strong stigma that surrounds it that if you openly discuss it, you could be deemed as crazy or loony.
I've been through a lot. Psychiatric hospitalizations, countless drugs, different types of therapies. Just to try to "fix" me. And I wanna speak up. But I feel like I can't. I wanna be able to talk in front of millions and give a testimonial speech about my life and how "you can make it if you try." But, I can't.
Why? Because if I do, I will be labeled, more than I already am.The stigma is so strong that people with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder can't even tell their friends. Imagine me, the one who wants to speak volumes to young people around the world about mental health. Do you see the correlation?
Mental health is beautiful. It's something that makes everyone unique and powerful in their own ways. It shouldn't be stigmatized in the way that it is today. So many people deal with mental disorders on a daily basis and need help, but are afraid to speak up for these reasons.
As a society, we should un-stigmatize mental health. Come together and break it. Because we don't need fixing, we only need recognizing. That we are people too. That we are just like you! Powerful and fearless.
Break the stigma by talking openly about mental health. Don't cover it up. Make it common speech. Love one another. The only way to break this cloud up is to talk about it. So talk about it.
