Chances are you're back at home for the holidays, so why not spice things up this year? 2020 has been full of so much disappointment, boredom, and tragedy that everyone could use a break, and that's exactly where this list comes in. Take a break! Remember to smile! Live out your childhood dreams! I'm not saying you should pack up all of your things and move across the country, but I'm sure there were some things as a kid that you told yourself that you would do "when you were older". Maybe it was buying a whole cake and eating it by yourself, or maybe it was running around your house with your shoes on (this only makes sense if you lived in a house where you had to take your shoes off at the door, but you get the picture). Whatever it was, here are a few of my "when I'm older" ideas to get you started.
1. Lick a butter knife
GiphyI know this is a weird one to start off with, but my mom REFUSED to let me lick butter knives when I was a kid and it drove me insane, so I've decided that I'm going to start licking butter knives after I use them for peanut butter, cream cheese, or whatever I'm currently using them with. There's nothing better than reveling in the feeling of cold steel against your tongue as you mentally flip off your mom and her nonsense rules (mom, if you're reading this, jk ily).
2. Curse realllllllly LOUD
GiphyThis one might be a no-brainer, but it's also one of the most liberating. I'm sure most of us have sworn around our parents at this point, but I wouldn't have dared to do that when I was younger, so I think it's time that I pulled out that trusty 'ole f-bomb and give it a good use. It's also pretty therapeutic, so if anything you can just blame it on some pent-up stress.
3. Buy an obnoxious amount of dessert and eat it all by yourself
GiphyThis one wasn't a dream of mine as a kid, but I did happen to buy 3 pieces of cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory for $25 at the beginning of quarantine when I thought the world was ending and it was AMAZING, so I highly recommend it. And if cheesecake isn't your thing, then just go spend a stupid amount of money on whatever food makes you happy. Trust me, it'll be worth it.
4. Dye your hair
GiphyIf you've dyed your hair before then this obviously doesn't effect you as much, but ever since I can remember I've wanted to dye my whole head red. Now that I have my own money and I'm out of high school, who can stop me? No one, that's who! Plus, if we go back into lockdown then no one will see my roots when they grow out, so it's a win-win. Definitely do a bit of research before you go crazy with the box dye and bleach, but there's NOTHING stopping you from rocking that fabulous new hair color, so go for it! Just try not to stain anything that's not your hair, okay?
5. Eat whatever, whenever
GiphyHungry for shrimp? Then go buy some and make it. Too tired to make a real dinner? Just eat a carton of ice cream and call it a night. In the mood for some Taco Bell? Then go get some! If you have transportation and some money for food then your options are wide open, all you have to do is make or buy your food. Never again will you have to hear the words "we have food at home" after asking your parents for some Wendy's, so why not celebrate by going out to get some?
Maybe you've already done all of these or maybe you haven't bothered to try them, but don't let the pandemic rob you of a fun winter break. Take some time to do things that make you happy, especially if that includes breaking the rules from your childhood.
