Hi, my name is Kae and I have a makeup problem.
It’s caused me to break bank on several occasions.
But on the flip side, it’s saved me money!
How has it saved me money? Well I guess technically speaking it hasn’t, I just happen to know what I can get where for cheaper than usual.
I don’t know, I’m not good at intros, they remind me of small talk. Basically I’m here to talk to you about makeup brands: How cost efficient they are, the quality, the typical style, and the audience they tend to appeal to. In order to keep this article from becoming a short novel, I’m going to do a brand or two every week I dedicate to makeup. For today I’ll stick with just one.
Heads up, I’ll probably mention some brands that I myself haven’t bought from, but I’ve read or heard many opinions about them. I know my opinion is the only one you care about, so I’ll make sure to let you know whether I’m speaking from experience or popular opinion.
So, lets got this party started.
BH Cosmetics
A brand with no retail location, BH Cosmetics is strictly an online store but honestly I don’t mind. They typically have a ‘spend a reasonable amount of money and get free shipping’ deal going on and it’s usually worth it. In fact the whole website is full of deals, almost everything on there is on sale almost all the time. Are they really generous or just really good at marketing? Who knows, but it works for me. With BH I really feel like you get makeup of a slightly higher quality than what you’re paying for, whether it's face, lip, or eye products.
Most eyeshadow palettes run between 10 and 15 US Dollars, which isn’t bad at all considering the amount of shadows you usually get with them and the quality. It’s not always opaque with two swipes, but the payoff for the price is worth it in my eyes. Something I really like about this brand that I look for in other brands is the wide array of colors they provide. Using the eyeshadows as an example again; there's palettes like the ‘Take Me to Brazil’ one in which for $9.50 you get 21 shadows that are almost every shade and tint of all the colors in the rainbow, or the ‘Neutral Eyes’ palette with 28 neutral shades you can wear in any situation for $12.00. Then of course you have the five 120 shadow palettes that go for $16.00 a piece that have a wide array of brights to neutrals and mattes to shimmers.
I focus on the eyeshadows a lot because those are my usual purchases from BH, but I’ve heard the quality of their other products is about the same. Usually worth the money, sometimes better, but not really ‘high end’ quality.
In my personal opinion BH Cosmetics could appeal to almost anyone. I bet whoever you are, if you wear makeup, you will find at least a couple products on BH you’d want to try. I think for the price and quality it’s a great site for beginning makeup artists or even experienced ones, especially ones interested in doing really artsy glamour or SFX makeup. Another thing to note is that they also try to cater to consumers who aren’t white, having at least a couple foundations that are darker than the usual “Tan” option offered by many companies and having colors that show up on skin tones that aren’t peach toned.
I’ve never had an issue with any of the products, and even if I did the vibe of BH gives me the idea Customer service would take good care of you.
Overall thoughts:
-Affordable
-Quality matches the price, plus some
-Wide array of colors
-Appeals to multiple audiences
Grade: B
