Bombing In New York City Shakes Chelsea Neighborhood

A bomb detonated in York City's Chelsea neighborhood Saturday. What is being described as a homemade bomb detonated in a garbage can on the corner of 23rd Street and 6th Avenue. Currently, 29 people have been reported injured alongside dozens of broken car windows and storefronts nearby.

Imagine strolling down the city of New York on a nice breezy night in the middle of September. You’re taking in the scenery of the city and the parks it holds, while you casually do some window shopping walking down the block. It is around 9 o’clock on a Saturday night and nothing is on your mind except for some down time and relaxation.

Suddenly you hear a deafening boom that sends you to the ground and breaks every car window and store-front on the block. Shrapnel and debris of a bomb flies everywhere and begins to settle down.

People are running in all directions while some stay on the floor. Sounds like a scene straight out of a war movie, but it is something that countless of people have experienced with bombings, not only in the city but in all parts of the country and the world.

Thankfully there were only some injuries and no deaths. The police are currently investigating and have found any motives nor has a terrorist group claimed responsibility for the actions. Another bomb was found four blocks away from this one. It was described as a pressure cooker with a number of cell phones attached to it.

This raised a lot of attention since a pressure cooker was used in the bomb of the Boston Marathon, one that actually killed three people and injured over 200. The bomb that they found seemed to have failed to detonate. No one has yet come forth and taken responsibility or credit for the bombs.

“We really were very lucky,” said Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, referring to the fact that no one was killed due to the blast.
The governor went on to say that, “We will find them and they will be brought to justice.” The “them” and “they” are not yet known but the police are working around the clock to find out.

As a resident of New York City and as a friend and family member to many that live and work in that area of the city, a certain paranoia and anxiety is settling in. One cannot help to think about what other bombs can be lying around in the city waiting to go off and who might be in the area when it does.

Events like these not only do serious physical trauma but also mental. Almost everyday on the news we see different bombings and attacks that happen to other cities in other parts of the world, but we do not see cities of our home country in the news that frequently.

So when something like this happens, it is a reminder to everyone how anything can happen no matter where you are. This is the type of world that we are living in, a type that we really do have to live each day like it is our last.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
