Justin Bieber’s unexpected comeback has been the choice topic of conversation over the past few weeks. My Twitter timeline is filled with tweets praising his catchy new songs like “Sorry” and “What Do You Mean?” I can’t turn on the radio or go to a party without hearing and shamelessly dancing to songs from his new album and witnessing everyone (and yes, when I say everyone, I mean the guys, too) go crazy. People of all ages, including even his most stubborn critics, are catching “Bieber Fever." No one can escape the epidemic. The symptoms? Feelings of irrational obsession for Justin Bieber and the need to replay his songs endlessly, to no avail. The cure? Although still unknown, it has been said that listening to his songs on repeat can suppress the symptoms.

I’m pretty sure Bieber caught us all by surprise. Maybe you have been a “Belieber” all along, but personally, as one who got over her “Bieber Phase," I assumed he had had his few years of fame, but, like many young artists, was past his days of producing successful music. Well, I admit, I was very wrong.
I confess, I was, at one point in my life, that embarrassing 14-year-old girl who covered her bedroom walls with posters of Justin Bieber. In the wake of the “Bieber Fever” craze of 2011, girls were falling for him left and right. That January, Justin had come out with his hit album, "My World 2.0," which was followed by the 3D movie “Never Say Never” that February. The obsession was very, very real. (I may or may not have written him a two page birthday letter, but let’s just pretend that never happened.) I regret to admit that my teen “heartthrob phase” lasted well into my sophomore year of high school, when I saw him on his “Believe” tour in the fall of 2012. Yet, soon after, my “Bieber Fever” slowly began to drift away. This is partly due to the fact that Bieber fell off the radar for a while. He didn’t come out with any new music and only resurfaced with the negative Hollywood drama of his relationship with Selena Gomez, his DUI, and let’s not forget that bleached hair. At this point, I was over the Beibz, and I would even go as far to say that I began to dislike him (Dedicated Beliebers don’t hate). I didn’t bother to see his second movie and I barely even noticed that he came out with any new music after “Believe” ("Journals" was released in 2013 on iTunes for a limited time only).
2015, however, is a totally different story for Justin. I admit I was wary at first, but when I first heard Justin’s collaboration with Skrillex, “Where R U Now?” I was pleasantly surprised. Like many, I thought, “Wait, this couldn’t actually be Justin Bieber, because this is like really, really good.” A song that was very different from his older music, showing a deeper, sexier side of his voice, is responsible for the first signs of “Bieber Fever” that slowly began to creep their way back into my life. After a series of individual song teasers, Justin finally released his album, “Purpose,” just a little over a week ago, which, by the way, I have had on constant repeat ever since. Tickets for his “Purpose World Tour,” which starts on March 9th, went on sale this past Friday, November 20th. He will be touring all over the U.S. throughout the spring and summer and will end his tour on July 18th at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
I beliebe (ha, get it) that this album, "Purpose," represents a new start for Justin. Obviously, he’s made a lot of mistakes. Yet, through this album, I think he’s making a statement that he’s a real person, who is learning just like the rest of us, but he’s back and ready to remind us all the reasons why we fell in love with him as little 14-year-old girls the first time. As a reconverted Belieber, I am proud of the music he’s produced and I am excited for his new success and what the future brings for him. So, give into the fever and get your tickets A.S.A.P.!
