The truth about growing up is that it’s not easy. There are going to be times where life absolutely sucks, and right when you feel you’re at the breaking point, that there’s no way it could get any worse, it will. And it will hurt. But then there will also be those times when you feel so in love with life that it’s absolutely terrifying, because how can something that you once used to feel so terribly about all of the sudden feel like the greatest thing in the world? It’s hard to even let yourself love life this much, out of fear that your happiness will be ripped away from you once again.

I can say that recently I've struggled with this, with allowing myself to open up and put myself in the vulnerable position of "falling in love with life.” After experiencing heartache, it’s certainly not easy. Afraid of being let down once again makes it that much harder to take a leap of faith, the leap that is so essential to moving on. But it's during these times especially when we have to have faith. Faith that things will work out how they are supposed to. Faith that there will be better days. Faith that heartache will eventually be replaced by the feeling of being high on life if you let it. So, to all of the struggling twenty something year olds out there, here are just a few bible verses that I hope can help you find this kind of faith:

For when you are sad:

Psalm 34:17-20 “When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.”

For when you feel alone:

Isaiah 43:1-5 "Do not be afraid. I will save you. I have called you by name—you are mine. When you pass through deep waters, I will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burned; the hard trials that come will not hurt you. For I am the Lord, your God...because you are precious to me and because I love you and give you honor, do not be afraid—I am with you!"

For when you are scared:

Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

For when you feel weak:

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

For when times get tough:

James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

For when you feel defeated:

1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond when you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
