It’s a sadness like no other
Crippling and burning, and most of all, nonsensical
Because nothing is wrong...
I know that nothing is wrong
So why is there a cloud over my head tinting everything a dark gray?
Hiding the sun rays of sunny days?
Everything should feel fine
I have family and friends, food and warmth
But every night when I go to sleep, the world feels like pretend
Like it’s make-believe
I close my eyes and my turmoil runs free
Through the biting comments of the other me
Saying: “You are unworthy of all that you have!
And all will go wrong if you don’t watch your back!”
I’m not safe from the demons that dart through my brain
And tempt me, invitingly, to end all my pain
I don’t feel it, every second, of every day
But when I do, it’s like a fire coursing through my veins
So to numb the pain and regret that I feel in me
I’ll convince myself that alone is the best place to be
