You know those days when you can’t get through a sentence without yawning? You spent last night talking to your best friend for hours, or maybe you just couldn’t say no to that party. Either way, you know you can’t get through your five-hour class schedule without some zzzz’s. Wait, you have a one-hour break between chemistry and calculus…hmm. It is power naptime! Here are some comfy spots on campus that match your sleeping position in order to get the most effective nap possible.
The head on desk: ACES Library
If you can fall asleep with your head on your desk while using your arms as a pillow, then the ACES Library is the perfect place for you. They have nice big tables where you can stretch out and perform your napping magic. It is very quiet, and the simple light coming through the clear-glass windows makes the ACES Library a peaceful place to catch up on sleep.
Sitting up: UGL
The UGL might not have the best environment to nap, but there are some very comfy chairs on the loud floor. If you can sleep with noise, or have noise-cancelling headphones, make sure to check out the chairs that are to the right of the checkout desk. They are blue and have a desk surface attached to one of the arms.
Back: The Union
Some of the lounges at the Union are decently quiet. My favorite is the South Lounge, which is right across from the Quad Shop. I have also heard that the President’s Lounge is the hidden gem of napping spots. The South Lounge has cushioned benches so you can literally lay down and take a nap. Trust me, no one will judge. (I have seen plenty of people napping there already).
The Side/Embryo Position: Study Cubes at Grainger
As shown in the picture, it is absolutely possible to snooze in a study cubicle. If you like to sleep in the embryo position and firm mattresses, this is absolutely perfect for you.
Any position: Espresso Royale
Rumor has it that the Espresso Royale on Oregon has extremely snooze-worthy couches in their upstairs area. Check it out, and then maybe afterwards get some coffee to feel extra energized.
Any position: Newman Hall
If you haven’t been to Newman Hall’s Louis Lounge, I recommend you go right now. It is extremely quiet and has such a peaceful atmosphere. The best part is that they have leather couches and chairs. Now you have the opportunity to lay in whatever position suits you (granted no one tries to interrupt you.) After trying this napping spot, you might never want to sleep in your dorm room again.
