It's one of the more interesting award shows. The celebrities are treated to unlimited champagne and minimal food. So there is no doubt that things can get interesting. The Golden Globes are not afraid to stir the pot and neither are those who attend.
1. The opening monologue
The night kicked off with a technical difficulty- but that didn't stop host Jimmy Fallon from cracking jokes about Hollywoods opinions on the president-elect.
Some of his Donald Trump jokes included:
""This is the Golden Globes, one of the few places left where America still honors the popular vote."
"The votes were safely tabulated by accounting firm Ernst & Young...and Putin,"
Hugh Laurie made a pretty good stab at the Trump administration later in the show. He joked that this would be the last Golden Globes since it's voted by the Hollywood Foreign Press- some of Trump's least favorite things.
2. The fashion
Just to pick a few...
3. Goldie Hawn
Was she drunk, honestly confused or was it scripted?

4. The In-Memorium
Of course, we lost a lot of icons over the past 12 months. Golden Globes paid a touching tribute highlighting the passing of mother-daughter duo Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. I'm not sure why they chose to only focus on these two, however, there is no doubt that both Debbie and Carrie left a mark on the film industry.
5. This audience moment
Ryan Reynolds kissed Andrew Garfield (middle left)
6. "Stranger Things" looked all cute and stuff
7. The diversity
Last year brought along a lot of controversy on the subject of their lack of diversity in film awards. This year, many minorities were nominated in various categories.
Viola Davis
Octavia Spencer
Donald Glover
Dev Patel
and more...
8. Meryl won the Cecil B. DeMille Award award
Presented by Viola Davis- her character, career, and legacy were highlighted.
"You make me proud to be an artist,"
You make me feel that what I have in me — my body, my face, my age — is enough."
Meryl referenced the prior Hugh Laurie joke in her acceptance speech. She spoke of the importance of Hollywood, foreigners and the press.
"You, and all of us in this room, belong to the most villified segments in American society right now. Think about it... Hollywood.. foreigners and the press."
She then highlighted the diversity of Hollywood. People from all across the world, from various economic households and various religions were all gathered in that room.
"Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if you kick us all out, you’ll have nothing to watch except for football and mixed martial arts, which are not arts,"
"An Actors only job is to enter the lives of people who are different than us."
"There was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart... it made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth."
She then continued to recount the earlier event in which Donald Trump impersonated a disabled man. She called the situation heartbreaking.
"Disrespect invites disrespect... violence incites violence."
"We need the press to hold people to account"
She ended with a quote from Princess Leia:
"Take your broken heart and turn it into art."
She never once used his name.

Donald Trump responded the next morning.

Ryan Reynolds made this remark to his wife, Eva Mendes in his acceptance speech for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.
"While I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one the best experiences of my life I've had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer. If she hadn't taken all of that on so that I could have this experience it would surely be someone else up here other than me."
10. Leonardo was there!
No one had seen him all night... and then all of a sudden he was on stage! Long live Leo
